The Estwing Sportsman's Axe is the perfect tool for camping and outdoor activities. This 12" camping hatchet is made of one solid piece of forged steel, ensuring it is both sturdy and durable. The genuine leather grip provides a comfortable and secure grip while you work. This multi-purpose axe can easily chop logs, small trees, and branches, and comes with a protective nylon sheath to keep your hands and blade safe. Convenience, build quality, giftable, and overall satisfaction make this one of the best camping axes and hatchets on the market.Noir Detective: I was given one of these more than fifty years ago, including a leather sheath, and it has been a valuable tool that I have carried around when working in fields, and when camping. Several years ago I lost it, somewhere in Northern New Mexico on a cattle ranch, and after hunting for it for over two years I finally gave up hope of finding it and I bought a new one. A few weeks after I got the new one, I found my old one buried in mud in a cattle corral when I had to replace a gate post--- and I have no idea how it got there. The old one is still good, so now I have a spare.

Judy Flaherty: I love this axe. I use it to split logs so they fit in the wood stove and it works perfectly. Keeping it sharp will be the key and if you do that it’ll last a lifetime. Comfortable handle as well

Junk sucks: Small enough to wear on your belt without a huge weight penalty. Slim for cutting down small trees, not for splitting even medium logs.....but will work just fine for making kindling and shaping woods of any kind. It's a cutting hatchet not a splitting hatchet. This is like a belt-worn companion to my buck knife. They do different jobs but do them well. Good purchase. Leather sheath oriented the other way would be great ((like dropping a hammer into a tool belt (for those who actually work with tools)). The plastic sheath is not what it should be except if you're left handed - it might be awesome. The hang is wrong. Center of gravity is way off in the sheath. CofG for the axe itself is great when cutting. Marketing deportment is always off with something...no matter the industry. This time the case is almost useless. The axe is really nice. Cheers. I like USA tools. I dislike USA marketing.

Brandon: I loved this hatchet so much I bought a second one. It’s sturdy enough to handle small chopping tasks, while still being small and light enough to be strapped to a backpack or tactical vest (yes, I could definitely see this being used as a tactical tool with the addition of some grip tape over the stacked leather handle).

ShujitShujit: First of all, I love that it’s one piece. So the head piece or the handle part is not going to pop out or anything like that.
Weight isn’t too heavy, but enough to do some damage to 6” diameter tree that I have in the backyard. Definitely recommend getting a 150-300 grit sharpening stone.
Looks/feels durable. Not for super big logs since it’s not long or heavy enough. If I have to scale it, it would be medium duty axe.

Randy M.: It is what I call a hand me down hatchet. You get what you pay for. The quality of the one that I received was perfect. The weight for me was just right. Now all the family members want to borrow it when they go camping and I know that it is almost indestructible and will come back in one piece.

JoelJoel: I just bought the Estwing and so far really happy wirh it. The picture shows 2 inch branches on a large tree that I was able to easily limb in 15 minutes. It is a somewhat heavy yet very trust worthy hatchet at 13-14 inches that has power behind the extra weight. Compared to my Fiskar hatchet, this is quite heavy but each has their own job specialty.
This Estwing comes with the lacquer finish over the leather wrap. I heard it may eventually crack allowing unwanted moisture to seep in, so the moment it arrived, I sanded every but of it off as suggested with sandpaper(youtube for instructions). I moisturized with mink oil(nestfoot is suggested everywhere so hopefully this wasn't a mistake on my behalf). The leather handle feels way better than the lacquer and gives perfect grip on a bare hand.. wirh that said, the metal butt did cause a hot spot on my hand after doing this 15 min job. A leather glove may be the way to go. In Canada, this cost me $70 which is a steep price, but it's been tried, tested and true..and has a leather handle with a full metal body. Can't ask for more. It's worth the purchase if you're on the fence. In my opinion, Fiskar is just a bit more value for the...
