James G Houston: This is a nice little unit for cooking small amounts of food. The first time I used it I filled the basket too full and the hot oil overflowed. Luckily I was outside or it would have been a disaster in the kitchen. You have to lower the basket very slowly to avoid the oil overflowing as well. The power cord is short and disconnects from the unit easily if you move it (it's magnetic) but I assume that's a safety feature. It would be nice if the lid was connected to the body as you have to find a space to set it down when removing the basket, and it's hot and oily. Cleanup is easy since everything but the element and the housing goes in the dishwasher.

warbird: This fryer model has been around a while, so there are no surprises. The good: size, heating speed, and cleanup. It is a good size for two people, and does a good job of even frying. We prefer the immersion heater style fryers as they are easier to clean with all of the non electrical parts going in the dishwasher. The bad: temperature control is only so so. At max setting (375) was barely able to get the oil to 350 degrees as compared to both a digital and candy thermometer before the fryer cuts out on the thermal overload and needs to be reset per the instructions. That's what most of our recipes require, so I guess it is ok. We did not have any issues with the magnetic plug. It's polarized, so make sure you insert the plug with the "this side up" label UP. As long as you are not moving the machine around it stays attached.

D. Swan: I've only done a basket of fries in this fryer but overall, it worked great. Couple of things that irked me, first, that magnetic power cord is beyond useless. Why would anyone think that's a great idea? First slight movement, it unhooks. Salton, if you're reading this, get stronger magnets or use a normal connection, it's worked for decades. Second thing, when I went to shake the basket, grease came shooting back. If you do decide to give fries or whatever you're frying a shake to loosen things up, tilt the basket towards the front just enough not to spill the fries and give a little shake. I bought this since it seems easier to clean than my old fryer so the jury is still out but the design should allow for faster cleanups. Gave 4 stars mainly for that magnetic power cord, otherwise it's a pretty good fryer.
