Rev Carol L.: The title tells it all; the story is interesting but the food descriptions are amazing. If you aren’t a foodie now you might be when you finish reading.

Amazon Customer: Accessible writing style; easy to read. The ending could have been a bit more robust tho. Otherwise it was pretty good light read.

June: I enjoyed this novel by food writer Ruth Reichl, although I did find it a little disjointed and would have difficulty describing what it was about. The story is divided into three books which, while there is some continuity across them, are each quite distinct. I was completely hooked on Book 1 and was a little thrown to find Book 2 moving in a different direction. Book 3 is a clearer continuation of Book 2, but is still quite distinct. I found this approach a little disorientating.
I did enjoy the characters and their development, although some of the surprises weren’t that surprising. In contrast, some of the conclusions that Billie (our protagonist) reaches while following the trail of letters require quite a leap of imagination. All that said, it is an enjoyable read with some genuinely touching moments. The food descriptions (mostly confined to Book 1) are fantastic and typical of Reichl at her finest. The book might have been stronger if the author had kept closer to that clear strength.

ontheroad: I love kindle books. They make my reading in my second language so easily. Whenever I come cross a new word, I press on it and a dictionary starts to show the explanation. However words in the dictionary are light that I feel so difficult to read them. I know I may click the Full Definition to have a clearer version. Let's see how it works. You click a word to get the dictionary, then one click to get a readable full definition showed on full screen. Then You need one click to get those choices showing on screen, such as where to go or to do. Then you click Back to resume your reading. After this last click, you need to wait for a quick reloading. Is that a lot of trouble? Other ereaders have better solutions. I will give you both the photos for you to understand better.
So please, please please change the dictionary printing, and give me a reason to stay with you. Thanks.

R. DelParto: One of the most fascinating novels to read that possesses a bit of atmosphere and pleasure to the story and characters. Ruth Reichl lends her expertise of the food world and adds much dimension to the staff of Delicious! Magazine. The book contains a smorgasbord of individuals that bring the story to life, and it is a story that will leave readers wanting to read more. Based on fact and fiction, Reichl interplays fast paced moments at the magazine to the subtle and intimate ones displayed in the letters written by a young food aficionado Lulu Swan to Mr. Beard.
The book weaves the past and the present within two sections. The letters that Lulu writes to Mr. Beard begin in book two, and are the most interesting parts of the novel that resonates with discovery but also sadness. Before the letters are found, members of the Delicious team are told that the magazine was folding due to lack of readership and technology dictating the direction to where magazine publications were headed. But while attempting to find the recipe for Nutty Apricot Cookies in back issues of the magazine, Billie and Sammy stumble over a letter dated November 3, 1942. So begins their journey away from...

Richard B. Green: "Delicious!" was recommended to me by a friend. As she and I are not always in agreement as to what we each enjoy reading, I was a little reluctant to put this book on reserve at the library, but reserve it I did, later downloading to my Nook. I'm not quite finished reading, but I can honestly say I have never been so charmed by a book as I am by this one. I really find it hard to put down, such is the "delicious" story Ruth has told, peopled with characters so beautifully drawn that I know I'm going to miss spending time with them when I come to the story's end. I've even ordered a copy to share with friends I want to enjoy, hopefully, the same experience I'm enjoying. I was not familiar with the author, but since acquiring the book, I've learned that she has been, for a long while, a food critic, and this forms the hook for this delightful story, Billie not a food critic but instead a woman who can identify, by taste and smell, ingredients in foods, knowing what extra they might need or what makes them extraordinarily special. In the process of working for the publishers of the food magazine "Delicious," Billie finds herself encountering the most memorable and lovely people,...
