RUNCL Merced Baitcasting Reel - Durable and Smooth Fishing Reel for Baitcasting

King Cat: I love runcle reels. I have the horism, the svallet and my favorit Merced. Its beautiful. Has high shiny red and black gloss painted. Low profile match with my Falcon HD Medium rod. Ive been using this for 8 months. Its easy to cast. The thumb release button is very soft and comfortable. I just wish they added the clicking drag like the Horism.

Earnest Family: I'm new into the baitcaster game and this is my second one. I have a 13 Fishing Modus that came as a combo and love it. So when my wife found me a nice casting pole at a yard sale I figured I'd save some money and buy a cheaper reel, since me being new at it I wouldn't notice a difference. Boy was I wrong. As said in previous review, the tension knob is a joke. I mean it sucks. I don't think I am a fan of magnetic brakes either, my Modus is centrifugal. Basically if your a first time user of baitcasting reels, spend some extra cash and get a good one, otherwise you'll get frustrated and quit. Fish on.

papa r: Was shipped this by mistake. (actually ordered Akataka Eagle) But tried it out and it's well worth the price. I have many high dollar reels (love Daiwa Tatulas) but got this hoping it would handle braids for topwaters. but it will handle any application. Don't know how long it will last but at the price who cares? Try it or Akataka Eagle (also sold by Amazon). Excellent for the beginner or fishing small lakes from bank where it's riding in back of truck when you don't want to beat up your $200 reels.

Amazon Customer: I am very happy that I choose to order the RUNCL Merced. I've fished with it in 2 bass tournaments so far. I have it paired up with a 7 ft medium heavy fast action rod. I pulled in a 5 pound largemouth using a jig. The drag worked like it should, the fish fought hard, so hard that he wrapped around a branch. But I still pulled him out. I have backlashed very few times. It has a very smooth cast and retrieve.

One thing I wish is if it had a little bit bigger handles. Or handles with a little more grip.

If you are new to baitcasters this one may take a few casts to get used to. It just casts so smooth even with brakes turned up you may lose track of the lure position and forget to thumb the spool in a timely manner.

Overall I love the thing. I would definitely buy another.

Bill from Denver, PA: I bought this reel after a 15-year pause in fishing. And it was even longer since I used a baitcaster. At one point about 10 years ago I thought about getting back into fishing. I stopped because of physical issues. I mostly fly fished and I just can't do that anymore. When I thought about getting back into it, I bought a very cheap baitcaster reel from Wal-Mart. When I recently did try to finally use it. You could not even get it to not backlash. Or if you did it would not cast very far. Over 25 years ago I had one and I could cast that. So I knew it was the reel after some frustrating practice. But being on disability does not allow you to spend much on hobbies. When I started to shop around I found Runcl. Sounded too good to be true. But thought I would take a chance. The difference between this reel and the cheap one is major. Even though they were close to the price. When your reel it, it is so smooth. And you can actually adjust it not backlash and still be able to cast it more than 10 feet. The body is plastic and I think it will break eventually. But I am careful with my gear and think it will last a while. If you are rough on gear, you might want to look elsewhere. One...
