Comments

Meg: Every veterinarian, vet tech, and pet owner should buy this book. The actual contents of the book are fantastic. Yin clearly explains, and illustrates with pictures, how to properly train and restrain pets. I'm giving this two stars only because I purchased a new copy, and it was not sent with the DVD listed in the description. Luckily I can find the videos online, but if you are considering ordering this book (and you should) just purchase it directly from Cattle Dog Publishing's website instead of Amazon.

Kate of PowellKate of Powell: I know what you're saying, it's an older book and I just need it for a class or something. You will want to keep and reread, Dr. Yin does an amazing job explaining animal behavior and her strategies, and it's also a very fun read.
Ive been showing the attached photo to everyone I know to demonstrate how amazing this book is. Buy it. Love it.

steve: This book has been better than I expected. I am a balanced trainer so I am not 100% positive but this has good quality information with out a constant stream of mis-information about balanced training.

Dean H.: Good but heavy reading in places. As always areas that could be debated but excellent book for those studying the topic. It is sad to loose such a thought provoking author.

Jacboderosenoir: This book should be mandatory to any Veterinarian and animal professional.

Koboldmaki: I just love the book. It's easy to read and there are a lot of hints how to do stuff right, which changes one's perceptions of every day situations in a vet clinic.
The photographs are superior. Everyone who has read books about behavior of animals or studied that topic knows how hard it is to capture certain body-postures. With these photos one recognizes the body position or face expressions of the animal right away, so it becomes easy to identify them in real life.
I am not sure how many of the shown methods I will be able to implement in my every day work - of course it is hard to learn such techniques from a book alone and it might need some guts to just give it a chance. However it already changed my perception of every-day-routines and educated me in body-language. So for me it's definitely worth the money!

Anita Kelsey - Author of Claws. Confessions Of A Cat Groomer: The definitive bible on low stress handling. I have learnt so much by reading this book. Hundreds of photo's demonstrate the correct and incorrect techniques and explain in great depth the why's behind the methods. As a cat groomer and cat behavourist I would recommend this book to anyone who works with animals closely including vets, groomers, animal rescue centres. It is beautifully written and every page had me delving deeper into my own journey and methods. http://www.catbehaviourist.com

Hebe Martin: Though spendy this book and DVD are great to have for learning and reference. I appreciate the "realness" of the DVD and the gentle, firm and positive approach. Does your vet treat your pet the same way? I am now equipped to better evaluate who cares for my pet and greatly encouraged that what so many of the "dominance" gurus do can be so harmful. If you cringe when you see dogs being jerked around by choke chain collars, zapped with electrical charges, yelled at, scolded and other wise "worked over" because their guardians feel their authority is threatened, then this is for you. Positive reinforcement and just good ol' consistent, positive, and upbeat attitude can work wonders. Dr. Yin shows how to use these positive attributes to help your pet become the confident companion you want. I also recommend any book by Patricia McConnell who recommended this book on her website.
