EdmondEdmond: First I want to say that this is a great starting point for youth players, any one younger than ten might struggle a tad. I got this book for my daughter who is learning how to play. All I really had to do was teach her how to read the tabs, but it also has a page at the beginning that gives a quick rundown on how to read tablature.
It's good for basic structure on how to play songs that sound familiar without all of the fancy licks. So the people saying that the tablature is incomplete... because it's scaled down for kids. I think it's good to teach young players how to switch between chords fluidly. Practice makes perfect! It gives chords with the lyrics to show the que of when to switch or play. I recommend starting with a very basic strum pattern before trying to get into fancy rhythms. It gives them a base to start.
The only thing that I wish the book provided is different basic strumming patterns. That would be the reason for the 4 stars. If your not a guitar player who can show basic patterns, then YouTube would be the other option, or pay for lessons.
Overall, this book is a great buy and I recommend scooping it up if it is still on sale for $8.

Schwemma: My 11 year old son asked for this book for his birthday & he loves it. He is a beginner guitar student, but recognizes most of the songs in this book & is able to play them! It’s a great motivator for him to practice!!
