Shopper11: Ich habe mir mit diesem Buch vor langer Zeit das Notenlesen beigebracht. Allerdings lernt man hier viel mehr. Wer von einem Lehrer als "Bedienungs-Anleiter" profitieren kann welcher dieses Buch kennt, wird über Jahre unglaublich viel über Zusammenhänge lernen zwischen allen Aspekten der Musik. Nach einem ersten Durchlauf lässt es sich hervorragend mit anderen Lehrmitteln kombinieren und hat sehr viel Inspiration für eigene Entwicklungen. Wenn man weiss, dass Leavitt dieses Buch quasi schreiben musste für seinen Job an Berklee in Absprache mit allen anderen Lehrern welche den Kurs ebenfalls im Gesamtstundenplan ausrichten mussten, begreift man erst den Fundus und die Tiefe diese Werks.

Dan Myers: After playing for years by ear and learning chords and some theory and some reading notation....I finally decided learn the right way. And yes there are great players who take pride in not knowing how to read music. To each their own. I prefer reading the signposts along the highway to avoid heading down a dead ends instead of having to "figure it out" by ear and then realize I hit a dead end because I couldn't read all the signs. So far a very thorough method. Yes it takes time but why not actually understand why for hundreds of years this notation system has been preserved and why you enjoy music etc? BTW the videos for lesson 1 book from Berklee (more than 150+ videos) are available free on YouTube. Search for "Larry Baione".

Jack huckson: I have been playing guitar for a few years and have a good practical base. I now want to get into jazz guitar and of course that means learning to read notation. For me, this method was to fast paced and dry straight off the bat, i nearly lost motivation. I think this book is best completed with a tutor. But don't fear - I can highly recommend the Mel Bay Modern method for students who our self taught. I am on the second volume of the Mel Bay series now and will be moving onto the Leavitt method later on down the road as it is the superior method - just don't rush it like i tried to do, enjoy the process and start with a funner easier method.

Paolo Cap Annie: Chi a ha scritto questo libro è un genio ! Questo libro non ti promette di suonare la tua prima canzone in 15 minuti, di imparare la chitarra in una settimana e così via. È un metodo progressivo in cui ogni esercizio è calibrato alla perfezione per aggiungere un pezzettino alla conoscenza della tecnica e della tastiera della chitarra. Non ci sono tablature, ma spartiti, quindi o conosci la musica o il libro non fa per te. Ti insegna gli accordi, ma soprattutto ti insegna le note che ci sono in ogni accordo in esercizi preparatori. Passo passo ti scopri che suoni la chitarra davvero. Facendo un esempio, è inutile partire dalla pentatonica in quinta posizione se non sai dominare la prima posizione. Fatto quelllo, poi vai avanti con le altre posizioni. Ogni esercizio andrebbe mandato a memoria. Ci sono parecchi duetti e un compagno di studi sarebbe il benvenuto, in alternativa puoi usare un registratore e duettare con te stesso. Insomma, libro non facile, ma consigliato a chi già conosce la musica e vuole studiare la chitarra in modo serio. Come si dice: “la chitarra è uno strumento facile da suonare male, ma difficile da suonare bene”.

Joseph T. Francis: I do no want to sound expert or arrogant but I'd like very much to talk to those who are not quite up to speed on reading music. It seems that is one of the major comments in most of these comments . I have played piano in dance bands, small jazz groups, WLW TV and radio in Cincinnati for two years and altogether about 25 years. With all that said, I am no better-off than any of you who are just learning to read. Let me put you mind at ease. Basically the music staff has lines and spaces. The four spaces are F-A-C-E and the five lines are E-G-B-D-F. Now I am being kind of rediculous to make my point. With all my experience, I am not much better-off than any of you because I do not know where any of these notes go on the fretboard. Plus, I am a young 83 and do not have the sharp memory that most of you have over me. But I will say this. A beautiful sound of a guitar note or a beautiul altered jazz chord almost gives me a chill. So while some of you will be struggling with F-A-C-E and E-G-B-D-F.think of me with all my experience trying to figure out where in the h--- do all these notes go on the fretboard. So we are all kind of even. So in closing, I do not wish to be a know-it-all...

greg pierman: I finished the book with a teacher 10 years ago. Stopped playing and picked it up again 6 months ago to reengage with my instrument. This time around it's a whole new book, My playing is so much better after time off, i don't understand and im not sure i like it but it's true, but that's the power of this book and further volumes. 1 hour a day, and review, review, review...learn it, practice it, move on...come back and play the previous exercise until you can notice marked improvement, come back to it three or four times, accumulate.. . that's where the goods are. If you can finish this book and "master" it, your on your way to limitless musicality, (i think thats a word). It's one thing to learn this book, but practice it then master it. I got 3/4 of the way throught Vol. 2 and put the guitar down regretfully for a few years. Use a lot of other sources with it, main text, not ur only text. Play the exercises slowly, at 60 bpm, develop the muscle memory and you'll get to musical speed much faster that struggling with a tempo you cannot play. My teacher was extremely helpful the first time through. Take a year to three years of lessons with this book from a teacher who reads, that...
