Stan: My old Genie silent max fried after a lightning strike and this newer model was easy to install. Also have alot of spare parts from the old unit. Old unit was 10 years old and worked well prior to lightning strike. Also invested in a small surge protection during new installation.

Almost Genie-ous: My original unit (10 years at least), control board got fried due to electrical storm. I bought this, popped it right back onto existing track and works great. Rewired everything, older wires were looking frail. although this is a belt drive opener, being able to simply switch the drive, I still have my chain drive.
Genie also offers a surge protector, single outlet, easy choice, hopefully prevents another burned out board.

Steve Procell: Purchased this unit to replace an existing unit that had ran its course. This product comes with a color coded map of instillation. Unit is extremely easy to install. Furthermore, to say it is quiet is an understatement, all you can hear is the wheels/casters of the garage door. Great product, motor is strong. This product was definitely an upgrade for my home.

Hans Kurz: it was easy to install but the programming was a little difficult. I phoned the given toll free number and and it was resolved very quickly.

Jim M: Love the opener when it finally was finished over a two day period. It work far better than the one next to it that is 5 years old now. The instructions are large but some of the crucial steps are very vague, like the programing up and down travel. They are two separate programs not one. You have to hold the program buttons for at least 20 to 25 seconds before there is movement. The help line is great however they do close at 5pm and no Sundays.

JP: After my old Genie screw type garage door opener failed after 10 years I decided to replace it with another Genie product. Even with the mixed reviews here I decided to purchase the Genie SilentMax 1200. After reviewing the enclosed instructions and measuring my garage door, 7' tall, I found that I did NOT need to purchase the extension kit. However one of the two garage door opener fobs was missing from the packaging. I placed a call to the supplied Genie support number on a Saturday morning and was able to have a replacement fob mailed to me in just a few minutes. I'm not sure when other reviewers have called Genie's support number but I did not have to wait in a calling queue and the support assistant was polite and friendly.
Installation was simple and the directions were concise and easy to follow. The enclosed installation poster has a color coded bag displayed next to each step that holds the required bolts/nuts, if fasteners are required for that step, so don't dump them out into one big pile! I was able to remove my old unit and install the new unit in just over 2 hours. HINT: If you are replacing an existing garage door opener make sure that you flag the wiring to...

Don Jones: This unit replaces a Harrison opener. That unit didn't have integrated remote control, and we'd had difficulty finding a remote receiver with sufficient range to work well. The old unit also had trouble getting the door started on the open cycle after we'd installed a door seal around the door opening. This Genie solved both problems: It works flawlessly with the Homelink system in our Toyota Tacoma (2012), and it automatically adjusted its opening force - the door now opens smoothly and without complaint.
Installation was straightforward. We were able to use the existing bracketing from the old opener, which eliminated what is probably the most difficult part of the installation. We have an 8' door, and so had to purchase the Genie 1' extension kit. The kit's directions could have been better-written; we wound up spending almost 90 minutes getting the rail and belt assembled and it should have taken, like, 5 minutes. Once that was done, the entire install took about an hour, including mounting the safety-beam devices, the wall panel, the wireless keypad, and programming the remotes (and the truck). We were able to re-use existing wall panel and safety-beam wiring, again...

cgsali: I basically have no complaints about the garage door opener. The wire provided is kind of hard to work with, as it's very thin, sort of stiff, and unwinding it can be kind of tricky. Messing with it added extra time to the installation. Watching the installation video did help a lot. It is much quieter than the last one which was a Craftsman. The motion detector is on the motor unit as opposed to the wall control, so it affects when it goes on. The safety sensors aligned very easily, which was a problem with my last opener. Warranty is pretty generous. Do recommend registering the product and making copies for reference.
