RedPill: I wasn't sure how much work was involved to replace an existing Liftmaster belt drive, which I believe was 10 years old. It was a bit noisy, but had other issues, like it wouldn't auto-reverse on contact, so the door would continue to close onto whatever was under it. In short, it turned out all I needed to do was replace the main unit and the door remote (old one was not compatible). The existing belt and infrastructure was compatible. So I can return the 8' extension kit I bought needlessly. I even re-used the existing door sensors, but may try replacing later depending on how it performs in bright sunlight (which often prevents the door from closing). I also want to raise the sensors from the recommended 6" off the floor so instead it is at least as high as the bottom of the vehicle so the door won't close on top of a car if the tires are not in the path of the light beam.
So this new one is a bit less noisy than the old Liftmaster belt drive unit. Although the door squeaks a little, I am surprised by how quieter the operation is now. Since I have a bedroom directly over the garage, quieter has real benefits when someone is sleeping.

I purchased this opener for the other side of my garage that didn't have an opener. Both my garage doors were very noisy when opening and closing (it would wake my baby up in the room above the garage) so at the same time I installed this new opener I also lubricated the springs/rails, I upgraded the door rollers, and put isolator bushings on both new and old openers’ mounts (item names at bottom). I then ran this opener beside my 2009 vintage Chamberlain AC Whisper belt drive opener for a couple of weeks.
What really made this opener stand out for my wife and I is how quiet it is, the DC motor has soft start and stop that allows the opener to ramp up to speed. My garage doors are uninsulated aluminum, so without the soft start, my old AC Motor belt drive slammed the door causing a huge racket even with all the upgrades.
With the new opener installed we couldn't hear the garage door open at all from inside the house (neither with the house door closed or in the room above the openers). The quietness combined with the other features caused me to buy another one to replace the old opener (which could still be heard upstairs and inside the house). With...
