Jessie: You can’t find this in stores anymore and I was really concerned about buying it on Amazon after reading several reviews stating the yeast was bad and did not rise for them. I even purchased some yeast separately just in case, however I did not have any trouble with the yeast that came with the package. I use this package as a base for a family recipe when I lack time to create it from scratch, and it never disappoints!

for everyone. It saves a little time, you still have to mix it, knead it,
let it rise and shape it but these are so delicious. And they come out

jstricke: Lot's of questions on here about expiration dates and it's important because it does have a yeast packet in it. It comes with "Red Star" yeast in a 12g packet that is the amount to use in the pre-mix provided. Yeast has a very definite shelf life as most bakers know. Many don't realize so does flour. To inhibit the flour getting "mealie" The best way is to simply keep it in the freezer. I don't want to gross anyone out with the biology but it will last almost forever if kept in the typical freezer at 0°F. Unfortunately that's not good for the yeast, at least in my experience. The solution? Like your spices, just keep fresh yeast in the cupboard. One of the small packets is 1/4 oz or 7g so two of those work just fine. I have better luck if I put the yeast in 1/2 cup of slightly warm water (about 110°F, warm to the touch but not hot) and a teaspoon of sugar. Stir well. Let it sit for a few minutes and you'll start to see a froth. Put THAT half cup in your mix with your butter or margarine and egg along with another 1/2 cup or so of water rinsing your measuring cup with that.
