T. Tran: I've owned many Shimanos over the years which are known for their smoothness. This reel is not as smooth as my budget friendly $100 Nasci 4000. It is also heavier because of the all-metal build. The line is very hard to pull out even with very low drag, unlike Shimanos where you can pull on much easier at a similar setting. However, I do like its structure which is more solid and it has a higher max drag at 30#, in case a monster happens to snack on the lure. It has the same gear ratio as the Nasci (6.2:1) but a shorter retrieve length (39" vs 37"). That was a bit surprising because I prefer the longer retrieve length for fast moving fish such as Spanish Mackerel, bluefish, and albies when trying to reel them in under tough surf conditions. Time will tell whether its spool rotation smoothness breaks-in with frequent use, its seals hold up against saltwater dunking, and the stiff drag at low setting has some give.

Craig R S: I did a lot of internet research for the best salt water reel for 2021. Out of 5 fishing websites that extensively test, analyze, and rate slat water reels, this was consistently at the top. if it was not #1 as it was in 3 article, it was in the top 3..... This is out of 1o rated reels. Penn has always mad quality durable reels, and this one rate with ^600-$800 reels... Difference is that it weighs more than the more expensive reels.
The gear ratios are prefect, the materials are very durable, drag is what you want and more, and is is so smooth in it mechanics when reeling in fish. You want a high performing reel that will last a long time and meet your needs for large or small fish.... Look no further.

Fco. JavierFco. Javier: Impresionante carrete. Sólido como una roca, algo pesado pero me va genial en una caña para la lubina desde playa/costa de 3.20m y accion 14-42g. Me contrapesa perfecto. La calidad/precio es brutal. Elegí la opción normal en ligar de la de "alta velocidad", y es un 6.2:1 así que perfecto. Sólo queda estrenarlo en el mar y darle mucha mucha caña, incluso me sirve para grandes peces de interior como el siluro al lance.

La entrega hiper rápida, pedí el carrete por la tarde y a las 10:00AM lo tenía en casa. Sin golpes ni nada a pesar de venir en su caja original y dentro de un sobre de amazon sin espuma.

RUDYAKAHALIBU77RUDYAKAHALIBU77: The media could not be loaded.  Number one, the Bell never closed on me yet. The size of this reel is 6500 and does not have an automatic bail trip it is manual which makes it ?% accident proof.
Some reels have a automatic bail trip so you can start reeling line right away. If you throw lures and plugs on shore you'll know what I'm talking about.
The bail automatic trip will engage soon as the handle starts turning. Some people as they throw their lines hard the handle is free to move which causes the automatic trip to engage causing lines to snap and lures donation.
Finally caught my first striper on this reel , it's always hard for me to break in New gear, got the skunk off now it's time to play.
The reel is very smooth and the dual drag is nice and tight. Love that they included the foam knob for cold weather . I like the aluminum knob much better for now looks and feels awesome.

Cliente Amazon: Ho una lunga esperienza di pesca. Devo dire che ancora non ho potuto adeguatamente testare questo mulinello. Tuttavia da quanto ho potuto valutare osservandolo appare molto solido e ben costruito. Le varie lavorazioni e il funzionamento di tutti gli apparati è impeccabile. Aggiungo che è scorrevole e nonostante sia destinato a grosse prede e quindi adeguatamente strutturato, non è pesante.Infine La bobina ha una capacità enorme.

Nicdron: My husband has purchased this reel two times. He ordered a second one because after 5 years of striper fishing his first one crapped out on him. He was so mad and felt it shouldn't have worn out (more so angry in the moment) but after thinking about the price and how much wear and tear this thing got he was actually surprised it lasted as long as it did and ordered another one. He striper fishes with the reel exclusively and it gets a beating all Spring and Summer! He kept the old one as he was told by a fishing buddy the company will rebuild it for him for a small price. His friend suggested to have it as a back up. He contacted the company and they do indeed offer that service which he was very happy to hear! He was disappointed to find they are not currently offering the service becuase of COIVD and cut back of employees on hand. He will eventually send it in to be rebuilt and was understaning of the situation. He was surprised they even offer a service to rebuild the reel and is even more impressed with the product. After that I don't know he will change reels unless its for another better model they offer or something. Over all he is very happy with it and will buy again. Me...

sunshine_cyclingsunshine_cycling: This feedback is based on initial assessments as a true review could take months of use. I just got mine last week. But I want to share some info I think is important. It is well built; it is smooth; and it does have a lot of drag. That said, like most things, it isn't perfect.

First off, the elephant in the room...yes, it is the current 7+1 version. Penn stated in a forum post on Stripers Online website that all reels made starting September 2017 were made with the line roller bearing. As you will see from the photo (L18) that mine was manufactured in December 2018, and it IS the 7+1 model. I first purchased one from my local shop and returned it when I found out it was the older model. FYI, the sticker with the code is on the reel after you take off the spool.

Pros:

1. Well built, including all machined brass gearing
2. Well sealed - IPX6 rated. I actually like that there is a 3rd party verification and rating system used here. I am not a fan of Shimano's "X" ratings and "Core" ratings. It's just marketing names.
3. Smooth drag; I admit I haven't used it in full practice yet, so take that with a grain of salt
4. Smooth action; it is smooth, but not...
