The arm has a good tension. It holds the paper in place and at the same time allows the paper roll to spin, so you can easily operates it with one hand
And although it's not as heavy as others, again, it's just right.

Dolly: It is heavy and doesn't tip over, but it tear cleanly (half sized paper towel sheets). Unless the tension arm is just past the perforation, it'll tear about 3/4 of the way before it rips the paper towel. It doesn't bother me that much but I just always use two hands to rip off paper towel.

It's the most sensible and efficient paper towel dispenser ever invented. Truly.
I have tried MANY, trying to save money, and this one's worth the price. It works so well.
Sturdy, heavy base. The clamp arm always tears the paper properly, depending on which side you like to tear from, right or left, either/or...it WORKS! BUY IT! It's a great invention. The most consistently useful item on our kitchen counter. (And-- I recommend VIVA cloth-style paper towels.)
