sharon: the only thing I disliked is the dial when in the off position should be straight up and down. If it's on full heat it is straight up and down but turned off its at the 1 o'clock position. this aggravates me for no real reason at all. Anyhow...several reviews said it too so long to boil water. First thing I did was take a 2 qt. pot put in a little more than a qt. of water and hard boil 4 eggs. from the min I took it out of the box til I removed the eggs was about 20 min. that's no slower than a stove. This morning about a half an hour ago I put a 6 qt. pot of beans on about half full and its bubbling away. The body does get quite hot so don't get too close even to the knob. The unit is light weight and easy clean. I'm happy.

Jose: This is the best electric stove I've ever used. It has a great thermostat that maintains a constant cooking temperature. The temperature dial is continuously variable and once you figure out the right setting you can set it and forget it. You don't need to constantly check to see if it's boiling over when simmering with the lid on. Perfect for the lazy chef.

Big Al: Motherboard to my range is being repaired. This has come to the rescue while I wait. It cooks perfectly. Like other reviewers have mentioned, it does take a while to boil water, but that’s ok - I have another Ovente item that boils water in a snap, the kettle. I use cast iron on this hot plate and it heats beautifully, evenly. It is easy to clean, but if you’re like me and hate streaks and smudges, know that no matter what you clean it with, it will be streaky. I am sure once that manufacturer’s film wears off the streaks will cease. I will use this in the future when the power is out and I am running a generator. For now, I am in total amazement of how well this works!

HMS: I had to unplug my stove/oven because a switch broke and the burner stayed on at all times, was going to take 3 weeks to get the replacement part. This was a life saver, boiled water almost as fast as my stove top burners. Will keep for camping and if something happens again to my stove. So glad I made the purchase, light weight and easy to store away.

William: I got this for emergency use during power outages. I have several solar power generators that I keep charged up and standing by. In the event of a power disruption our kitchen range will obviously not work (we could theoretically buy a generator capable of putting out 240 volts, pull out the range and connect that, but that's an impractical approach for us) so we'd like to have an alternative for light cooking, heating food, boiling water, etc.

Upon delivery of this I opened the box and removed it, then I connected it to one of my solar generators, put a small pot of cold water on the heating plate, powered the outlet to which it was connected, and watched that pot (I know - but it eventually DID boil!)

It took roughly the same amount of time to reach boiling as I would expect from our range top. It heated quickly, and the temperature control seems to function as intended. Cleanup was simple.

Just keep in mind that the housing of this unit gets quite hot during use, and that it takes some time to cool after powering off the unit. As with any device that gets hot caution is always advised.
