Answerman: Evewrything is in plastic, because of that I am scared to break the handle that activates the crushing mechanisim.

jameslei: Transaction was A1. Package with the ice maker inside was crushed in one place, but luckily the ice maker was unharmed. It works well - takes a bit of effort, but the crushed ice is worth it. Crushed ice is just a bit too fine for my tastes, and I wish there was an adjustment one could make so that one could get it crushed in various sizes- that is, bigger or smaller pieces of crushed ice. I'm puzzled by a black plastic disk, the same size as the the one on the handle, as I can't figure out what it's for or even if it's a part of the crusher.... But all said and done it's
a good buy and does what it is supposed to do! James Sleigh

D. Grey: I've had this ice crusher for three months and used it almost every day. No rust, but I do take the ice catch bowl and the crusher compartment lid off after every use and set them to dry separately. I suspect that this has allowed moisture to evaporate quickly enough to not allow rust to form, but no sign of any trouble there.
Pros: does a good job crushing ice, solid base/doesn't move.
Cons: squeaky handle/gears, blades catch on the ice frequently and need to be reversed and then run forward again to keep crushing (instructions say not to force them through the ice to avoid breaking the mechanism).
Overall a decent buy.

Andrew P. Frits: I am very torn on what score to give this product. First of all, it does a great job cutting ice. Well it does take a good 80 Kranks to get about 20 ounces of crushed ice, the size of theIce chunks is perfect, and goes great and with sodas or adult beverages. It is not an exaggeration to say that I use my ice crusher every single day for six months it is still working.
Unfortunately, the product has a major problem. Black goop gets into the ice. I put clean ice into the machine, and ice with large black specs comes out. I cannot tell if this is rust in the blades, or if the seals that the company uses around the spinning parts is falling apart. I spent quite a bit of time picking out black dirt from my crushed ice and cleaning the blades; someone who is not partial to eating disgusting things would not be satisfied with this product at all.
Because I use this product so much, I am considering purchasing another one in the hopes that this black group is just from a bad unit. However I see that other people have also complained about black residue getting into the ice.
It is a shame that this product has such a horrific drawback, because otherwise I am completely satisfied...

R. A. Martinek: A good design apparently reworked by an accountant. From the reviews here, older units were better made, of better materials. These units work quite well when new, but they will not last.
One of the retaining clips on the shaft of the unit I bought broke. The unit is easy to disassemble with a screwdriver, so I took it apart to fix it. When I replaced the broken clip, I noticed that the drive shaft is carbon steel, not the stainless steel of the blades. The spacers between the blades are cheap plastic (looks and behaves like ABS or a similar material). On my supposedly new unit, the shaft was already starting to corrode. As there is no effective way to keep water away from the shaft or to remove the water once it is between the plastic spacers and steel shaft, the shaft will corrode, and you'll have rust in your crushed ice.
The stationary teeth of the crusher and all internal components are made of the same cheap plastic, poorly cast, with poor quality control. There was extensive flash from the molding process between the teeth and on other portions. The exterior is plated pot metal—I can't believe they'd use an expensive metal like zinc on something this cheaply...
