smores: I decided to dabble in the shaved ice business. I got this unit before dropping 5 times as much for a "real" commercial unit. The flowery side stickers/decals make it look like some kids toy, which it IS NOT. Fortunately, they can be removed fairly easily. The ice shield is nice, in case the ice block comes loose. Get a foot pedal if you are using this machine. It gives you more control and will be money well spent. I can't personally compare to the pricier machines, but this seems to shave ice well, and the blade adjustment works fine. I can't speak to it's longevity in a commercial environment yet, but so far so good. If it blows up in a year, I may just upgrade to a more substantial machine with a longer service life. It needs a separate drain hose for the bottom tray, and it would be nice if it had a dust cover for the greasy main screw shaft, like other entry level models have. For an entry level "commercial grade" machine, it's a good value.

James Webb: Throughout these reviews, a few small items keep popping up as drawbacks to an otherwise fine machine. It was with these concerns in mind that I unboxed, assembled, and adjusted the Ice Cub. I took pictures along the way, especially of the blade adjustment process. If there is a way to post them here, I'll do that. In the meantime, here is a "blow-by-blow" of the process and what I found:

1. Delivery: Delivery was one day early, which is why I'm sitting here typing this review instead of shaving ice. A+
2. Condition of Package: Other reviewers are right - it comes in a box that is not of the highest quality. The box was, however, taped and banded. The machine was held in place with custom Styrofoam inserts and shredded paper and cardboard. Underneath all of that, he machine was wrapped in a tied-off thick plastic bag. A
3. Condition of Machine: With the exception of one small scuff, flawless. It might be of interest to some to know that the plastic housing is fairly sturdy. It is, however, plastic and not a scratch-resistant composite. With use, it IS going to collect scratches and scuffs. MN_Ranger: First, I want to clarify that I have not used this machine yet as our first block of ice is still freezing. The initial review is not about the function of this machine.

I am very disappointed in that the machine I got is not even remotely close to being new. It is very clearly a well used product. Not only are there scuff marks on the exterior shell, there are even more scuffs inside the area the ice spins. Furthermore, the brass ice floor is even scuffed! I did expect there might be some cosmetic issues due to shipping a large object, but this is absurd! There is no mention at all that this is a return or a refurbished machine. I've ordered enough refurbished items to know that even those were in better condition that this.

I bought a foot pedal to go with this and I can at least say that it works with this machine and that the motor seems to run OK without ice.

I am hoping that the performance of this machine is so stellar that all this is moot, but so far, off to a very bad first impression. I'm really disappointed, but will reserve the final verdict until after seeing how it performs. Be warned for those demanding both look and function!
