Terry chamness: I actually played this game years ago on my Wii but I ended up losing my copy I recently managed to buy a new one and decide to start over from the very beginning but I do distinctly remember the play the first time I played it and this is really a top-quality game it looks great feels great the controls are easy. It's a very dangerous and tricky thing to try to make a sequel of a classic particularly what a lot of people would consider one of the greatest video games ever and that's the original Super Mario Brothers I like millions of people around the world when I was a kid play the original on my old NES. Just like remaking or doing a sequel to A beloved film there have been a lot of video games that have tried this and not been particularly successful. It's risky when you are again dealing with a game that is so legendary but this game actually delivers and I would argue actually manages to be better than the original in quite a few places. There's really no sense going into detail with the story and that's the only problem with the game because it's the same old thing Bowser has Princess Peach kidnapped again, seriously that girl needs some better security around her Castle,...

Straightforward: This is exactly the game you'd expect if you've ever played one of the Mario Bros. platform titles before - it's the same scrolling from right to left concept with the same characters, the same format of worlds and Bowser confrontations at the end of each one.

The important difference is that up to four people can play it at the same time - this turns it from a rather solitary and unsociable pursuit into many evenings of fun.

The levels themselves are very difficult - some of the bonuses are only achievable with more than one player playing unless you are very skilled with the controller, especially the time-based collection tasks - which lead me to conclude that this was designed as a multi- rather than a single-player game.

It manages to keep both types of player happy though - both dedicated ones and casual. At first there's 8 worlds to explore, but if you manage to get all the large coins then a 9th opens up for you to try (but you ned to get ALL the big coins in all other 8 worlds to progress to different stages in the final world). Halicon5: The New Super Mario Bros. game for the Wii is a great return to bringing the franchise back to it's console 2D roots. Taken by itself, the game is really amazing on many levels, but after playing the game I also wish that Nintendo wouldn't have played it so safe with this title. The innovation is only incremental over the DS release from a few years back and there are so many good features that could have been included. My review has a lot of criticism, but please understand me... I only criticize this much because I love so much.

PROS:
+++ An insane and frantic multi-player experience that teeters between competitive and cooperative.
+++ Easy to play but still challenging.
+++ Colorful and whimsical level designs with lots of clever effects and features.
+++ New suits, flowers, and power-ups

--- Lack of an online multi-player mode.
