Mike Daley and Rosie Fernandez Legal Thriller: The Dreamer (11-Aug)

Donald K Glaser: Good book, fun and intriguing story BUT I am pretty sure everybody knows you never pull a knife from a wound until you are in the operating room as the knife is blocking the blood from leaking out of the lacerated vessels and organs. I am pretty sure most readers made a face when that issue was brought up repeatedly.

Breaking a law has consequences and the family often suffers by a mistake made by the perpetrator. If the mother is living in a country illegally for 1 month or 20 years she is still breaking the law, the more years the more cumulative the breach. If the mother is caught it only seems motherly that she would take her children with her if she is deported. Citizenship does not really play a part in a family, a mother would not leave her 4 year old behind. The author mentioned 4 times about how terrible it would be for Isabel to be left behind, what kind of mother would leave her behind regardless whether she were a US citizen. If a mother snuck into Disney Land and got caught, would she leave her 4 year old behind to reap the benefits of the Happiest Place on Earth??? Many people live too far away, can't afford the tickets or do not know how to sneak into Disney...

Sylvia E. Edwards: I just love the way Mr. Siegel draws his characters so that we know them like family.
Each story is interesting and we watch our characters grow and mature.
I’m sad that there is only one more more book to go!

Daniel Sheppard: First and foremost, let it be said that I have enjoyed Mr. Siegel's books.
As respects Mike & Rosie, they may wish to take a lesson from The Mary Tyler Moore Show
and that is: leave while you're on top.
As good as it has been and absolutely no fault of Mr. Siegel, life has it that the popular becomes common and risks a nose-dive.
The Dreamer certainly has its positives, but what stands out more and more is the formula.
The brother who is a detective, the brother-in-law who runs a grocery store, the coughing old journalist, yes indeed!
Either inject some newness or consider it a project well done, but completed.

Amazon Customer: I never miss a Sheldon Siegel book. Each is riveting, with great descriptions of the characters and their surroundings. Whenever I discover a writer new to me I check to see what else he has written, and whatever I've just read, I then read all of them in order. With Sheldon's works that isn't necessary, as they can each stand alone, but you're in for a real treat if you read them in order.
Thank you Sheldon for another gem.

RARowland, Cincinnati reviewer: I have 30 years of investigation in insurance claims, coupled with a law degree. Such experience gives me a slant when I come across a police procedural that perhaps, other readers, without such experience, may not have when reading a book like “The Dreamer” by Sheldon Siegel.
I do not re tell story lines in my reviews, but, the most appealing aspect of this read was the cross examination by defense counsel, Rosie Fernandez, challenging witnesses, both hers, and those put on by by the prosecution against her client in a murder case.
The Plot was extremely tight in that it held me from page one to page last with no let up in interest. It just flowed on and on to the verdict. It would be a ***SPOILER*** to say more about that, so I won’t.
The character development of the accusers, as well as all those involved in the investigation in support of the defendant’s case, is realistic and believable as to the strategy used in the investigation of the matter.
The prosecution's strategy is simply to accept the argument, on face value, that the victim was murdered by the defendant, as initially presented by the investigating officer, and carried on by the prosecuting...

Kindle CustomerSteve b and Alberta b Alberta: I have read all of his books and enjoyed every one of them. I particularly like the dialogue and Mike Daleys thoughts. I also enjoy learning about some of the techniques lawyers use in the courtroom.
I also like the unique relationship Mike and Rosie have.

AvidReader: In the interest of transparency, I have a major problem with Sheldon Siegel. He writes far slower than I read!

In "The Dreamer", Sheldon takes on homicide; an attempt to frame an innocent person; Social Justice, and the current political climate in San Francisco. And he does so in a way that addresses a major social issue without beating the reader over the head.

Silvia Fernandez approaches her daughter Rosie, San Francisco's Public Defender, with a request - no, a demand - that Rosie defend a young women - a Dreamer - against the accusation she murdered her employer, an up-and-coming chef. Rosie agrees to take on the case even though she is in the midst of a re-election campaign, recognizing that the issue of defending a Dreamer might impact her attempt to remain San Francisco's Public Defender. Rosie calls upon her ex-priest, ex-husband to sit 2nd chair and hires Mike's brother Pete as the investigator for the case.

The "victim", Carlos Cruz, is a brilliant, if perverted, chef who is demanding of his staff in more than just their professional duties. His lust provides an ample number of potential witnesses, as well as, potential suspects with motive for...
