Kindle CustomerSteve b and Alberta b Alberta: I like Siegels books, they combine drama, court room action, cleverness solving crimes, and they contain humor.
One technique I really enjoy is when Siegel talks loud, but he puts his thoughts into italics.

STEPHEN M. MURPHY: Former securities lawyer Sheldon Siegel has written a series of legal thrillers set in San Francisco featuring criminal defense attorneys Mike Daley and his ex-wife Rosie Fernandez. The series is noteworthy for its snappy dialogue, sharp humor, and realistic setting.
In Last Call, Siegel features Daley defending his cousin Joey Dunleavy who is charged with murdering police officer Eddie Corcoran. Joey and Eddie argued at the bar Joey managed with his grandfather in the Sunset District. Eddie’s body was discovered just behind the bar. Nearby was Joey’s bloodstained knife. To make matters worse, Joey’s fingerprints were on the knife and the victim’s blood on his clothes. Joey claims he had come to the victim’s aid and had left his knife outside the bar by mistake.
With his private investigator brother Pete, Daley scours the neighborhood for other suspects, focusing on a homeless man who had been arrested and beaten by Eddie. At the preliminary hearing, Daley’s attempts to shift blame to others essentially falls flat. Just when all seems lost, a witness surfaces with information incriminating someone else.

Gabi Rosetti: Big John Dunleavy called Mike to come to the rescue when his grandson (Joey) is charged with killing San Francisco Detective Eddie Cochran. Cochran's personal and professional lives were a mess. On the job, there were charges against him for harassment and excessive force and he had recently been suspended from the police due to his actions. His wife, tired of his infidelity and alcoholism has filed for divorce. Mike takes a leave of absence from the Public Defender's Office to defend Joey with Rosie's blessing. Pete is the time to devotes himself to investigating the case and Terrence, Nady and Rosie help when they can, but this is Mike's case. Mike goes to court thinking that he has already lost for lack of evidence, but only time will tell...
It was good to get lost in San Francisco with some of my favorite people for a few hours. The story was as brilliantly told, the pace was fast and the characters kept you entertained. I examined each clue as they came to light and tried to figure out where the puzzle pieces fit. This one kept me guessing until the end like a good novel should do.. Oh, and I love it when characters like Roosevelt Johnson make an...

Jules: I happened on Mr Siegel’s Mike Daley/ Rosie Fernandez books after reading all of Michael Connolly’s books twice and most of Grisham’s. Great mystery writer. Each book in this series can stand alone but, if possible, start with the first so you get to know, enjoy, and love the characters over several years of their lives. They become “ old friends”.
The plots are well developed , interesting, and are never too “wordy”. In this book Mike takes a leave from the SF Public Defender’s office ( Rosie is now SF’s Public Defender)to defend his nephew Joey who is accused of murdering a policeman. Mike’s uncle owns the bar that Joey manages. His brother is Mike’s private detective. Several interesting characters that may be responsible are introduced. There is a good balance of investigating and time in court. It moves quickly and is never boring.
You will not regret reading a Sheldon Siegel book.

Jim Tenuto: Thirteen books in and you might forgive a series author to slip a bit.
Sheldon Siegel does not slip; he might have picked up a step or two.
In his latest Mike Daley/Rosie Fernandez legal thriller series you slip into the comfortable formula and it is a magnificent formula. The appearance Nick "The Dick" Hanson, nonagenarian owner of a detective agency? Check? Pete Daley, former cop and relentless investigator? Check. Terrance the Terminator, the gentle former boxer? Check.
Here's what else you can count on in Siegel's thrillers. Snappy dialog, a solid plot, a list of unusual subjects, and his acid sharp grasp of the San Francisco's zeitgeist. In LAST CALL, he does not shy away from the toll homelessness is taking on The City and its denizens.
As always, Siegel captures just how small a big city The City is. Everyone seems to know everyone else, and in the world of the criminal courts and cops and robbers, it is just so. Fourth generation ethnic families, multi-generation businesses, all hanging on against the onslaught of the "tech kids" and gentrification.
One of the additional benefits of the series is that the reader gets a list of great...
