Queen B: I'll preface this review by saying I'm not massively overweight and did already eat a lot of what she suggests in her book. But I wanted to lose about 14 lbs and thought this would kick start that process - I especially liked the emphasis on repairing metabolism and health. Having said that, It is a very faffy diet bordering on irritating. And some of the inconsistencies are not explained. It is also somewhat dated: I agree caffeine is not essential but she excludes Green tea whose numerous benefits including for weightloss have recently been researched. Then there is the faff of why e.g. its not possible to substitute one type of white fish for another type of white fish [e.g. haddock and cod on phase 2]. If there's a logic to it, I would have liked it to be explained. Instead you are left scratching your head as to why soy is verboten but tamari sauce [made of soy] is ok. I stuck diligently to the diet But did make mistakes a couple of times in the first two weeks in that I mixed the cod/haddock [cod phase 2/haddock phase 3] and I ate the wrong piece of fruit [orange] in phase 3 when it should have been in phase 1. Other than mixing up a couple of the foods in the wrong phase I...

Bluebird: I have been on this program for 7 days so far. I know it may seem a bit early to post a review, but wanted to do so now for two reasons; first, I am excited by my results so far - I have already lost 9 pounds - and second, I was dismayed by the inaccurate review (V. Canfield) that deterred me from trying this diet program months ago.
First - about me so you know what you are dealing with. This is my first Amazon review ever. I am at least 60 pounds over weight. I have lost (and gained back) weight on at least three different programs and know I will lose weight with Weight Watchers if I really work at it and am very patient - but I knew it would take a long time and lots of deprivation to lose all that I need to lose to improve my health. Before I found this book I was pretty discouraged. I am tired of counting calories and had already worked out for myself that "calories" are a largely inaccurate concept when applied to food. I am pre-diabetic and have joint and skin issues. If that seems like too much sharing, I apologize. Personally, I hate reading reviews without enough information to understand the writer's point of view.
I read the basic details provided above and knew...

Highnotes: I bought this book following the feature in The Saturday Times last month. If you follow this diet as strictly as you can I think weight loss is pretty much guaranteed. I haven't lost 20lbs admittedly but I wasn't hugely overweight to start with. I'm 5'3 and start weight was 9 and a half stone. End weight after 4 weeks is just below 9 stone. And I barely did the exercise element of the diet due to a very busy schedule. So I'm very pleased with the result. I'm not quite at my wedding dress goal weight (8 and a half stone) but I have to admit I can't face doing another couple of weeks of the diet at this stage - I may come back to it in the few weeks before the wedding. Here are my pros and cons.....

PROS

1) You do get to eat a lot of food, I like to snack so this diet worked well for me in that respect. I didn't get any of the guilt I usually do if I have an extra piece of fruit or a whole sweet potato etc.

2) I have lost weight - particularly on my stomach and around my face and a little off my bum and thighs

3) I feel much healthier generally. I feel less lethargic since giving up caffeine. My skin is very soft and completely clear - best it's been in...

Amazon Customer: I purchased this book as soon as it came on the market in the UK. I’m mid 50s and have spent most of my life on a diet. I lost a lot of weight on a low fat plan following an operation on my hip. Mobility had been a problem but after the op I was more mobile, joined a gym went on a low fat diet and dropped from size 18 to 10. I have continued a very restrictive low fat diet. I don’t have milk or sugar in drinks; I do not drink sugary drinks, eat biscuits, cakes or chocolate and have existed for the last 5 years on cottage cheese. I drink very little coffee, black tea and sparkling water – but I do enjoy a glass of wine or an occasional cocktail!
As other reviewers have said I read about this book in the Times Newspaper and as everyone I know persists in telling me that I don’t eat enough I thought I’d give it a try.

I too have not weighed myself beforehand suffice to say I knew the weight was creeping on as the size 10s got too small and the 12s started to get tight. I have stuck to the diet quite religiously; people at work keep remarking that they have never seen me eating so much. The husband and son have the evening meal with me which will be from the...

NL: Having almost completed week 2 of the plan I can safely say that so far it is working for me! I can't comment on specific weight loss as I couldn't face the scales before I started but I can already see the difference and I am looking forward to stepping on the scales after the 4 weeks. Today I am wearing jeans that I bought a few months ago after losing weight on a low calorie plan, but already couldn't wear after a couple of months as they were too small and I generally feel much better in myself already, probably partly just due to getting the eating under control again and ditching the chocolate.

For me the phase 2 days with only protein and veg are a bit of a struggle but as it's only a two day phase I've found I'm able to do it, as the author says, its only 2 days. As you know you have a good 3 days to follow, you can stick it out.

I have found a few discrepancies in the book, eg for a snack it may just say protein, but the suggested recipies are protein and veg, but all in all the guidelines are good.

If you are looking for something to get you back on track and get you out of a rut, I would recommend the plan as you do eat alot of good food and the 28...

JA: I thought I'd give this a go having seen an article about it in the Times. All I can say is that I'm actually enjoying it,not any hungrier than I ever was before and am losing weight, albeit not at the rate suggested by the book.

I'd say I'm probably a stone over weight and am losing steadily at 2lbs a week on this (this is my 4rth week) I am probably losing slower than suggested by the book as I have broken all the rules so far - yes I've had a couple of glasses of wine, I've had a couple of bits of chocolate and I refuse to eat just egg whites - it's always a whole egg for me. I've also continued doing my normal amount of exercise at the gym and haven't done my exercise in the 3 phases recommended. Also I did have a reasonably healthy diet before I started and guess I'm not hugely overweight.

I am happier with the slower weight loss as I've found a way of doing the diet which is tolerable (and in fact enjoyable for me) I have to say I feel "well nourished" on the diet and have been buying some veggies I just haven't bothered with for a while e.g. spinach and cauliflower.

At the end of the 4 weeks I will continue with the diet however will reintroduce...

S. Calderone: I was in top shape when I got pregnant at 40 years old. In the past 3 years I've been unable to lose 30 pounds - sadly - I gained weight after losing most of my baby weight. My metabolism died essentially - I worked from home and sat most of the day. I ate every left over carb snack my son left on his plate and at my largest meal at 9pm. I couldn't find the time to include exercise into our busy lives since my husband has a very challenging work schedule. It was a nightmare - each month I saw the scale go up, my energy go down, sleep issues, etc. I saw the author on Dr Oz and thought this made sense and i would try it for 28 days - what did I have to lose. The first week - I lost 3 pounds - and I followed the plan to the T except I wasn't used to eating as much food as I needed to. The second week I lost an additional 5 pounds but what I noticed the most was lost of inches. I'm in the middle of my third week and I'm down 2 pounds - and I will admit I cheated because I've had a very stressful week. What is stunning to me is how TERRIFIC I feel. Not only did I lose inches around my body - I went from size 14 to 12 already. I am having the hardest time eating enough food to be...
