More Pancakes!: The previous owner of my Porsche 930 fried the wiring harness that energizes the oil cooler fan so I had to pull new wire from the engine bay and am now using this to control the blower. When the temps get hot I click the remote and the fan comes on
I tried a more expensive remote controlled battery cut off switch thinking it would be more durable but it failed.
Also this guy has tremendous range.
WHAT A DEAL FOR $20!

John M: I would like to clear up some confusion that appear in the Question section and maybe help you choose the right remote control unit for your application. This unit has a relay inside it. When you remove power to the unit it goes to the "Open" position (no voltage on 12v out line). When you first apply power it stays in the "Open" position. To "Close" the relay you must push the "On: button on the Transmitter and this will provide 12v to the 12v out line. I am using this on a performance exhaust system where I wanted the the circuit closed when I turn on the ignition. This is the factory setting that prevents the baffles from opening until a high RPM is detected, then it opens the baffles for a very throaty sound. To do this I had to add another 12v relay driven by the 12v out line of this unit and using the "Normally Closed" position of this second relay to drive the exhaust circuit. Now when I push the "On" button on the transmitter it keeps the baffles open all the time (and makes the throaty sound at all RPMs). If I want to go back to factory settings I push the "Off" button. The second relay I used was: Parts Express 12 VDC Waterproof Relay SPDT 30/40A with Metal Bracket on...

JF: RELAY KIT
2 wireless remotes and a relay.
WHAT'S A RELAY
A relay is a technogeek way of saying a switch, that's controlled by another switch. You use them when you want to turn something on or off remotely. One example is the ignition switch in your car. It has small wires that go to the starter, which starts turning your engine over. The starter itself has large wires running to your battery because it uses a lot of juice. It would be expensive and impractical to run those large wires to your ignition switch, to the starter, and back to the battery. So, we use a couple relays, one at the ignition switch, and one at the starter.
A wireless relay is even better than the above description, because it allows you to eliminate some wires altogether. Although you still have to wire the receiver in - you can do that as close as possible to the device you want to control - then you can use the wireless remote to activate the relay. I did this for my wife's foglights after I installed them.
We've all seen movies where they used cell phones, or other wireless triggers to set off their little devices. Those were methods to activate relays and turn their 'devices'...

GAR212: The media could not be loaded. Used this neat little device and a simple turn signal flasher to build a panic alarm for my truck. Hook up per instructions and add the flasher to the white device wire and connect it to the trigger terminal of the horn relay. Don’t try to run directly to the horns, they draw way more than a flasher or the unit itself is designed to handle. Whole job took about a half hour
