The Chad: Ok first off I'm use to whittling with with just a pocket knife and those were basically hacking at a stick so I bought this in a attempt to actually make something when I'm away from home. So use of actual whittling tools are a new thing to me. Anyway I'm a lefty so I bought the left-handed carving jack and for the most part it works great, fits fine in my big hands the blades can be a bit awkward trying to get out but I'm sure over time it'll be easier to handle. What concerns me is that the only way to position it for use is for most of the blades to face towards you, meaning you're pulling the blade to you and not away.

Please don’t buy the $20-25 knife that is similar!!!!! You will be so happy with the carving jack. Yes it’s a little pricey but what you get is well worth the extra dough guaranteed!!! Another great feature is you can buy this item left or right handed and not have to special order. Left handed was in stock. This item is a carvers dream with six important carving tools all in one. Plus it comes with a nice leather sheath, a sharpening strop with shapes to fit all the blades. Also a yellow or gold sharpening compound to help keep the razor sharp edges. I wrote this review as a consumer just like you and I’m not affiliated with flexcut or Amazon at all. I cherish this knife, it goes everywhere with me. Lastly, you’d think a knife loaded with all these blades would be bulky and uncomfortable in your hand, wrong!! Extremely comfortable. I’ve used it for hours at a time and I feel like it’s just a part of my hand seriously!! It was super easy to give this item 5 stars after using it for several projects!! Randy

Dame Droiture: I thought that I had my usual carving tools razor sharp ... until I got this. WOW. These knives arrive in *perfect* sharpness out of the package. I might buy another -- or perhaps the whittlin' Jack -- as a supplement. Melts wood like -- pardon the cliche, but man oh man -- BUTTER.

The blades are a bit tough to extend, but I found that applying a little Ballistol (or another oil) to the ends really helps loosen them up. (Another reviewer stated that he used a screwdriver to open them. NO. Do. Not. Ever.)

My only complaint has to do with the fake wood veneer on the handle. If it's not real, don't even try. Why not use some awesome material like carbon fiber or glass-reinforced nylon?

Woodwose: You probably can buy all of the blades in this tool as separates for less than the cost of this item. That said you have to store all six and the quality of the steel is sublime. Keeps a great edge, is easy to carry with you and is constructed well. Down sides: if your a Brit and carve RH away from the body - buy the LH model, the too, is very square in shape and can get uncomfortable in the hand and finally its expensive at over £100

KI6WBH: the first thing i should point out is the knife locking mechanism it is a press to unlock/lock so that it does not have to comply to most states "prone to close" if you have problems with deploying a blade(its still a knife), i pulled on the side draw scoops(and pressing the lock) which brought the others with them, this will work until it breaks in.

i bout two (amazon,rockler woodworking)one left hand one right (I'm left handed). the same side hand makes it a draw knife the opposite a push. having both can give you a choice of comfortable attack for your project.

the projects I'm working on come from the student and teachers guide to sloyde woodworking gone through the first ten projects in madrone wood(2 year seasoned for fire.

WARNING: flex cut ships its tools razor sharp(i love that) so i don't have to refine the cutting edge before use. buy the leather thumb & finger guards at the same time it will save you time and band aids.
