Amanda Gosling: As someone who recently returned to playing guitar after decades of not playing I wanted a book to both relearn an challenge me. This fits the bill. It didn't spend too long in basic fingerpatterns. Moves on to more difficult patterns at a good pace. Very easy to follow but not so basic as to bore. This is a book I would return to again and again for reinforced practice. Highly recommended. I will be buying more in this series

Donna: I loved how this book takes you from the very beginning from the mechanics of the fingerstyle technique
through exercises and combinations of patterns via chord forms. The book covers Hammer-Ons and Pull-offs! Each example lesson is clear and concise and offers tips in preparation of the next movement. I also like how he recommends listening to popular musicians tunes which references his lessons. For instance, Blackbird by The Beatles uses mini-chords that require you to fret two notes. He'll give you exercises using mini-chord shapes while exploring the neck to the 12th fret. Simple voicing! Your given lots of ideas to add to your fingerstyle acoustic playing.

Frank GoBell: I've purchased several books that were allegedly for beginning finger-picking. Most of them were actually collections of songs that the author/publisher deemed easy enough for someone to play using finger picking. They didn't actually go through the mechanics. This book does. It starts with hand and finger placement, moves to timing and chord progressions, and adds things like chord embellishments. In other words, a real introduction for the actual novice. Yes, there is music, but the music is fragments that are designed for you to work the instruction; it does not simply collect a number so songs and essentially say, "Here, play these - they're easy."

Ernest Garrett: Offers some nice tips and basics but doesn’t go in to detail like some other books. Very small book but still worth more then a 20 first lesson
