Key Features:

The Trapp Family Singers were a singing group created by the Von Trapp family in the 1930s. Led by the matriarch of the family, Maria Von Trapp, the group was comprised of her seven children and their father, Georg Von Trapp. After their rise to fame in Austria, the family was forced to flee the country with the onset of World War II. They eventually settled in the United States, where they continued to perform and record music. The family's story was famously adapted into the musical "The Sound of Music" in 1965, which went on to become one of the most successful films of all time. The Trapp Family Singers remain an iconic part of music history, and their legacy continues to

Daniel: Autobiographical. The actual story is better than the movie. Although the movie is excellent.

A lire aussi "Around the Year with the von Trapp family" avec quelques chansons (et partitions), recettes et bricolages fort fort sympathique.

Derek T.: Amazing story! The examples of faith during loss, the gift of family, and of trust during the unknown — what an inspiring path to follow. LOVED this book and have told many others to order.

Fr Adrian G. Head: What is most impressive about this fascinating Story is the constant expression in it of their deep religious faith as an essential factor in their life.

Amy D.: Maria Trapp's book reads a little bit like one of those Landmark biographies written for kids back in the 50s. That is not to say that the book isn't good. It is! But there's very little in the way of dates, historical background, reflection, analysis, introspection or anything negative. Maria tells her tale in a largely unimaginative style with mostly just the facts of how things happened. Note that, as the title indicates, this is a book about the family's singing career and life in the U.S., and not strictly speaking an account of Maria's life.

Thus, most disappointing to me was the almost complete lack of information surrounding the family's flight from Austria after the European phase of their singing career had begun. Similarly, Maria tells next to nothing about her romance with the Baron except for one little whimsical anecdote, and, then, suddenly they were married! Nor was there a shred of information about Maria's childhood or life prior to entering the Trapp household.

The highlight of the book for me was Maria von Trapp's deep devotion to her Catholic faith which I found really very inspiring. Her faith permeated everything she...

K. Kuhl: I loved this story as much, if not more than the Sound of Music. That's saying a lot since the Sound of Music is one of my favorite movies. Here this lady who doesn't quite fit in with the nuns finds her true calling, to be a wife and mother, one of God's most important callings. When the Trapp family loses all of their fortune during the depression, they adapt by making their love of music and singing a career that supports their large family and brings so much joy to others. Then, when Hitler takes over Austria, they use their touring schedule into other countries to escape Germany, not quite as nail-biting as the Sound of Music escape. I can't even imagine what it must have been like for people to lose their homeland to a terrible dictator like that, but, again, the Trapps adapt, this time ending up in America. Maria tells us a lot about what it was like for a large immigrant family to adjust to life in America, often relying on the charity of others until they got on their feet. There is also a good dose of humor, seems like she would have been a lot of fun to be around. She and her family's acknowledgement of God's hand in getting them through the rough...

Chris T.: At the age of 36, my husband had not yet seen "The Sound of Music"...a Thanksgiving staple in my life since I can remember... After nine years ~ and continuing the tradition of watching the great classic musical every Thanksgiving ~ my husband is just enamored with the film... So much so that he would get online and research the actors and the movie...

This book was a Christmas gift that satisfied so much curiosity for him in ways unforeseen upon purchasing... Within a month he finished the book (which is HUGE since he works 10 to 11 hour days).

He loved reading the history of this family through Maria's eyes... As he told me, the movie only touches on a very small part of their lives...but the general premise is true...they're a singing family who really did have to skidaddle out of Austria right under the noses of the Nazi authorities...

Here's one thing he told me that really stuck... The Von Trapp family didn't have much money when they got to the States (not going to spoil it so I won't state why). They didn't know where to settle for a little while when a friend had suggested building there...and the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe,...
