Introducing the KOHLER 1256315 Part Touchless Flush Service Kit, Black. This is the best faucet trim and repair kit available, boasting superior overall satisfaction, top-notch packaging, impressive build quality, and ease of use. Make your faucet repair and trimming job a breeze with this amazing kit from KOHLER. JimJim: So far I've ordered 2x of these from Amazon and I've had to return both because both were wrong.
This is part 1323210, not 1256315.
The difference is that 1256315's sensor faces up from the black box and reads through the porcelain.
1323210's sensor is attached with a wire and designed to hang on the outside of the tank.
I see now (not sure if it was added after complaining to Amazon), that the description for this product says that "Service part number 1323210 is a piece of service kit number 1256315.", but that is not correct.
If you look at the product photos, you can see that on the inside of the lid on the black box is a series of part numbers with checkboxes next to each. 1256315 is checked off. On the part that is actually received when you order this item, there are two additional checkboxes: K-1954, 1256315, 1323210, and 1339778. 1323210 is checked off, not 1256315 as is indicated in the picture.
This part is fundamentally different from 1256315 in that the sensor is designed to hang on the outside of the toilet. Also note that this external sensor is not visible in any of the product photos.

Joseph D'Amico: My father bought a handle free toilet, which is stupid because the sensor broke and the toilet wouldn't stop. thank god we put this replacement in to fix the problem.

PbFut: I had an older unit fail do to a mistake while installing fresh batteries. I damaged the gear drive. Ordered a "Amazon Used" item. Likely a return since it appeared not to have been installed but the package was missing many items and was actually a different model/controler. OK for my needs as I simply salvaged parts off the old since all that was wrong with mine was a damaged gear drive.. If this is a first time buy, be sure to buy new. A bit tricky to set up at first. Especially if your manual pull is in the tank lid rather than traditional side of tank. A little trial and error and you'll get it to work flawlessly. Keep the batteries out until you are done with initial setup. Watch when you are installing the battery pack. Be sure the rubber gasket is correctly in place for the lid to seal and that you don't pinch the internal wire lead when closing the battery compartment. A good seal is important or you will get enough condensate from the toilet tank water. The condensate will kill the electronics. If it happens remove and try the rice trick or leave in fresh open air a few days or even a week. You may get luck and find it will work again. Don't leave items on the tank lid....

Not Assigned: I had originally written a great review of this new Koehler flushless kit... Unfortunately it appears to have been premature. It looks like they fixed the issue with the endless loop flushing cycle but these units have additional new problems... #1: batteries... They really seem to eat through them in just a month or two. I’m not 100% sure that the batteries are the issue but the sensor range gets shorter and shorter and eventually it stops flushing after a relatively short period of time. Replacing the batteries seems to fix the problem but they don’t give you the multi-tone alert like the old ones to let you know there is a battery problem. At least I thought it did until I tried that method in our brand new 2 week old unit and it didn’t immediately fix it. Leaving the batteries out for about 5 minutes and then reassembling the unit seemed to fix it but that may actually be worse if this new unit needs to be unplugged and reset every 2 weeks... 🤦♂️ #2: the new sensor looks like a toilet flush handle... So what do your guests do? They try to push on it to flush the toilet. Fortunately Koehler knew this was a stupid idea so they made it so that the sensor doesn’t...
