Let me start out by pointing out that I'm a gray-haired retiree who was a computer professional his entire adult life (since the mid '70s). It's not like I'm a newbie.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus has always had a top rating by independent antivirus testing labs. However, I'd always used the free antiviruses. But, you always get what you pay for. One free AV would spam me to death - it WAS adware. Another was hyper-sensitive. False positives all over the place; I mean programs I wrote and compiled were declared viruses. One of my machines became infested with adware despite being "protected" with Microsoft Security Essentials, which neither blocked nor removed it (I think MSE is for Microsoft's protection, not mine). That was the last straw.
After doing some research, I selected Kaspersky as a professional antivirus - and I'm delighted with my choice. Installation was a breeze. I was up and running in a couple of minutes. The infected machine I handled in a slightly different manner. Really bad malware will actively resist the installation of anti-malware programs. The price is good compared to norton and vipre. I did like AVG but my computer wiz friend told me kaspersky is better. Kaspersky requires many downloads. At least twice a month. However, the updates do not interfere with the software protecting my computer without taking up memory and slowing speed. Other anti v. slow my computer down. I have an hp envy 14 from about 2009. This software saved my computer from a virus that almost crashed my computer. Kaspersky contained, destroyed virus, and tripple checked everything. Easy to use. Love the product, worth the money

When I tried to install from the CD on Windows 8 which was suppose to work it did not want to install. Instead I had to go on line with an advisor from the Kaspersky who unable to make it work. In the end Kaspersky made me download from another web site, I also found the software cheaper at Future Shop a couple of weeks after my purchase. Amazon your reputation for better prices is challenged!!!

I have been purchasing Kaspersky Anti-Virus for years based on it's ease of use and it's protection. The latest iteration is a huge disappointment.
The Good:
- Great protection
- This product provides some of the best anti-virus in the industry
- Good anti-phishing
- Early threat detection
- Not annoying
- Runs in the background without annoying pop-ups most of the time
- Easy to use
- Anyone can use this software. It's messages are clear and the program is clean looking.
The Bad:
- Expensive
- This is one of the most costly anti-virus programs out there and discounts are non-existent
- Even as a loyal customer for many years, I've not received one email for a coupon or discount
- Compare this to norton or avast, who regularly give out promotional codes.
- Resource intensive
- While it may be running in the background, you can see it's effect big time in certain situations
- It scans every exe before opening, which can cause a huge slowdown
- Startup time takes quite a big hit

I have used Kaspersky Anti-Virus for over five years, and I like it. But I won't write six pages to tell you why. When I first got it, I found it rather complicated to use, and I had I to reinstall it a few times. However, I always found their tech support to be very good.
But now, I find it so very easy to use. I just insert the CD and follow the instructions. I love the critical areas scan and the vulnerability scan. And you can just drag an object to the little square on the scan page for a custom scan.
It is not intrusive, and I almost forget it is there. If it hadn't popped up a few days ago to tell me my license was about to expire, I would have forgotten to renew it.
Since I have used it my computer has never had any malware problems. I also use real-time Malwarebytes along with Kaspersky. Quite a pair.
