Jim Anderson: Does a very good job at securing the paper towel to the holder, as well as very attractive compared to those other boring looking paper towel holders.
Paper rolls off nice and smooth, with enough resistance to hold it in place.
Only thing you may need is shorter screws if you are mounting it under your kitchen cabinets, as the screws supplied are more intended for securing to a wall as they are much too long . Other then that, very happy with my purchase.

MM: Holds the paper towel firmly and tearing paper towel off is not a problem. The screws supplied in the package are drywall screws and anchors instead of screws that fit the product plate + standard cabinet. The manufacturer should include both mounting hardware options for this price. Now we have some sharp tips until I can get to a hardware store.

D: This is the second of these I've now purchased, I got this one for the studio in black and the newer version as I already have the older silver model. I was under the impression the cap held the roll on, this in not the case, and in fact, doesn't even need to be removed to change the roll! I see complaints about that, but it makes no difference if you simply leave it on. The newer version has a tighter and in my opinion better ratchet system in place, making it truly one hand tear, but with that said, depending on how you mount it (*also a breeze to install) you want to pull the towel out only a little more than half from where you want it to tear (the line per sheet) and when you go to tear, pull consistently with a snap FROM THE ARM SIDE (the side in which the device is mounted) as your start point to tear and simply yank towards you. It tears perfectly if you follow these steps. I have a tattoo shop and need things to be able to be accessed one-handed. These are the best thing I've found, just treat em like a lady, be gentle. If you reef on it, based on the design and mechanism holding it together, of course it will break if you're torquing it from the top down, it more doubles...

Let’s start by saying that this is by far the best paper towel holder I have ever used.
This may seem on the surface to be of minimal importance but to anyone who has needed a paper towel for something, fast and one handed, then you know how most holders out there can fail you. Freestanding countertop ones just topple over or worse, fly away sending a paper towel streamer across the room. Any of the mounted “Bathroom TP Style” ones don’t hold the roll stable and once free spinning a nice mountain of paper towels can pile onto the counter. Then there are the friction ones out there. Most have such a death grip on the roll that you are lucky to get more than a corner of a sheet ripped off. Often all you come back with is a thumb sized shred. All in all a plethora of badly designed holders are out there and some really ugly ones too.

Now to this fantastic holder with the ratchet design.

Mounting was easy as one would expect. The cheap plastic screw anchors that came with it are useless. If you can’t, conveniently, screw it into a stud or other wood frame then get some much better drywall...
