Andrea L. Lunsford: The plants are in good shape, they are small though, and I didn't get one with a root system at all. It was kind of like a fresh baby that got snipped off and sent. I thought that I only got one plant because they were small, but it is two and it will do. I am giving the 5 star rating because the plants are alive and look good and healthy. They were dry and vacuum sealed but not sealed tight, but they are sturdy and good and healthy. I am happy with my purchase, but don't go into this thinking you will get a bunch of little plants that you can separate because you can't.

Carrie BarrieCarrie Barrie: Going by the reviews, a lot of people don't know much about this plant. First of all, DO NOT BURY THE ROOTS OF THIS PLANT! Also, these are shipped as multiple plants all tied together with black thread to make a bunch. That black bunch at the bottom of your plant is not roots, it's a lot of black thread.

See in pic 1 - you need to gently cut the thread and separate the plants.

You can see in pic 2 and 3 as I gently cut and separate the plants.

Pic 4 shows the rhizome, from which the leaves and roots grow. That is the most important part of the plant. You can see in pic 4 that the original bundle was actually 4 plants, tied together as one. If you don't separate these, the string will suffocate the plant and it will gradually die. Even worse, if you bury that bundle, it will die even quicker.

You can see in pic 6 the string that was wrapped around the plants.

In pic 5 you can see small pieces of rhizome, with no roots or leaves. Don't throw that out! Just drop it in your tank, and over time it will grow roots and leaves and make a new plant!

As for the separated plants, the rhizome and roots feed from the water column, not the substrate....

L.: Gave this an overall 4 star Bc the plants were far smaller than pictured - and the packaging was fine but most sellers wrap the plant with wet towelette or something to keep it moist during travel. This was not wrapped with any water. Just a bit of styrofoam and a weight. On the plus side- the plants looks green and healthy and like another person wrote- each one has 2 tied together. So you can really space them around the tank more. I kept them together and left the weight on so they’d sit ontop of the substrate... which is good for Java ferns ... never bury the rhizome! Anywho also? They arrived few days earlier. I was happy for that! The seller seems great. Just consider wrapping the plants in moist towel next time. It will keep them better maybe. They were fine overall and I dropped them into my aquarium right away. Love them! Would buy again. Despite them being smaller. It’s a small thing!
