Lisa Jane: I bought this book because a friend of mine has raved about the progress she had made while trying to cut sugar out of her life. After a recent major move, I noticed that my eating habits had become…well healthy but also I was CRAVING sweets. Like, after dinner I would always want ice cream, or I’d pass by a bakery and want to get a cupcake, or I absolutely could not drink my tea without honey or sugar in it. I started baking, and only made sweet things.
I wanted to kick these sweet cravings. So I got the book! I really enjoy how S.Wilson goes into detail about how sugar affects our bodies and she even gives readers helpful recipes that are dietary restriction friendly (gluten and dairy free for example). She also helps you cut sugar week by week, not cold turkey all at once which was super helpful to me.
However, I wish there had been more options to choose from. Sugar is in a LOT of things we eat daily, and I wish this book had given me more options to curb those cravings when I had them.

Ashley: A great way to wean yourself off of the sugar. This 8 week plan breaks it down into weekly doable steps so it’s not as intimidating to quit sugar.

David in NJ: I first saw Sarah's book in Whole Foods in Philadelphia and it was exactly what I was looking for to help me improve my diet and get my blood work back in line.
There are two things to consider: (1) The book is just an introduction to the detailed and involved 8-week program. I've taken the program twice, it's offered online, and all the recipes, science, expert forums (there are almost 30 health / wellness professionals, including MD's, who will respond to your questions) etc., are a part of the program with content provided 2-3 times weekly during the course (with a further month of access to all content), and that that is independent of the 24/7/365 Facebook site, and (2) I Quit Sugar means getting rid of the junk food and hidden / overt sugars that are in so many foods these days. It doesn't mean you'll be saying goodbye to dark chocolate, tasty (wholesome) treats, fruits, etc. It simply means no more Twinkies, sugary donuts, and the like!! But if you must, once in a while is OK. It's like going out and buying solely organic food, or as our great great grandparents called it "food". The value of the course includes the new recipes (cf. previous courses, and which aren't...

James Gaudreau: I really wanted to like this book but I can not recommend it to anyone who is seriously trying to "quit" sugar. There is some helpful information at the front of the book and the recipes are not without some quality items but on the whole, this is not the book for someone trying to quit sugar. Many of the recipes have lots of fruit and rice syrup. Rice syrup is sugar, fruits are sugar. I understand that not all people want to eliminate all sweets from their life and I am not an evangelist for eliminating all sugar but the title of the book is misleading. She warns about fads like agave nectar that are truly worse than HFCS but then liberally uses Brown Rice Syrup. Brown rice syrup is like using HFCS. It is sugar under a different name. I do not recommend it.
Another point that is troubling is that she likens sugar cravings to an addiction. I have heard this language before and I do not have a problem with it. What I do have a problem with is stating that something is an addiction and then halfway through the 8 week "detox" program, encouraging people to try a little sugar and see how they feel. If it is truly an addiction, which some of the metabolic process associated with it...

LuvMyDoggy: As someone who has struggled with the demon sugar for most of my life, this book (and program) is my saving grace. I didn't do it to lose weight, though that is a happy outcome (not the 15-20lbs it seems like I'm always "trying" to lose, but a noticeable difference can be felt at the waist of my jeans). I did it because I needed to seriously overhaul my sugar intake (and diet in general). The best advice I can give you is this: GET EQUIPPED first (the fabulous Ms. Wilson tells you exactly what you'll need food and gadget wise). It's likely that you already have most of the gadgets you'll need but I highly recommend that, for the first several weeks, you stick with the foods she suggests. It took no less than 4 major store chains for me to find everything I needed (Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Central Market, and my friendly neighborhood Safeway) but now that I know what I need, I know where I need to go. I never thought I'd use chia seeds for anything other than my chia pet but I'm 5 weeks in and am not entirely sure why I didn't try them sooner. Brown rice syrup and coconut oil are also your friend. Be warned - you will be consuming an incredible amount of fiber and you will hate...

Gerrit Duvenage: I know we are supposed to follow the 8-week program. I enjoyed the book so much that I read it in one day. I am on day three of quitting sugar, and I read this book thinking it would help with the process, and it did. However, it's probably a good idea to start reading it from day one. Quitting sugar is harder than I thought it would be and the theory that it takes 6 weeks to get over it is not immensely helpful. However, the benefits as presented in this book make it worth the effort. Please note that the author does state that we will probably have the occasional sugar even after quitting as half of our day-to-day items has sugar in it, but we will no longer be dependent on it, and we will have broken the addiction which is the purpose of the 8-week program. Spoiler alert, sugar found in fruit, is still sugar. So, worth the read? for sure, even though I don't feel great (due to me quitting sugar) it's good to understand what is going on in your body and how long it's going to last for. Sahrah also touches on the topics of alcohol and getting our kids to live sugar free. And a substantial portion of the book is dedicated to recipes for some great food items and sugar free treats...
