Heavy Duty Quad Cane with 500 lb. Weight Capacity by Drive Medical

Barry C. AdamsBarry C. Adams: I was very concerned about getting a good solid quad cane. When I got a notice that the cane had shipped, included was a pic of a totally different product. Chrome looking shaft with black base. Not what I wanted. But I received the all silver that I wanted.

This is the bariatric model, extra heavy duty for up to 500 pound capacity. I weigh in the 180s so why do I need a heavy duty cane? Because they are much more sturdy and long lasting, believe me. I have been using quad canes for 24 years. The cheap ones with aluminum handles fail over and over. Received loadings cause stress fracture failures. Typically at around 6 months use. I was very wary of this cane with an aluminum upper shaft. But now that it has arrived, the neck area that always fails seems much more substantial. When I use it, the amount of movement seems extremely minimal. It's the flexing over and over that causes the stress fractures. Less flex should mean longer life.

Also, the small steel base is the way to go. Much better maneuverability, like small narrow walkways and stairs. The handle is great. Don't be fooled by getting a foam handle. You will be replacing it often. Much...

Geoffrey S.: This quad cane replaced my old quad cane that was starting to break down. I can't have that, seeing as how I suffer from peripheral neuropathy and will fall down if I do not have and maintain three points of contact. This cane is solid, bariatric-grade (supports up to 500 pounds) yet is light enough to easily maneuver and manipulate in tight spaces. I use my cane in my right hand, but it is easy to switch the feet out to be used with the left hand. If you have Medicare just ask your physician to write you a prescription for a quad cane, and you don't even have to pay for it out of pocket. I bought mine because I have the funds to do so. Only like 50 bucks when I bought mine.

Alan Dowd: Very well constructed, particularly to manage my weight. Gives me much more confidence in moving about. Base size is a bit small and sometimes feels unstable. Still useful for moving about in my home. Have ordered the Large Base version for use outside the home.

Sharon Ober: I originally received the wrong cane and was not happy about the one I received. However, the company that shipped it, ActiveWear, was absolutely great in resolving the problem, top-notch customer service, and now that I have the correct cane I am very happy. It is sturdy because of the four feet, and it is well made and heavy duty, giving the feeling it will support your weight, even up to 500 lbs. it has an adjustable height feature, so is great for taller people. It is just what I needed.
