my 2 cents worth: My 11 year old grandson enjoy the book and asked for the 2nd one "Lawn Boy Returns" for his next Birthday.
Nice cute story by a well known childrens author.

Kim Willis: This is a book boys would love. A boy starts out with his grandma's old riding mower mowing lawns and gets rich by summer's end. While it's a little implausible to an adult, there's just enough explanations to make a boy believe it and keep reading.
There is no sex, only mild violence, and not even any serious swearing. If this is the book being banned I can't imagine why.

christopher p michel: Don't get the title of this book confused with the OTHER Lawn Boy by Evison that is trash. THIS Lawn Boy by Paulsen is hilarious and quirky. This is a must read book good enough to span from Elementary grades to High school. Great book!!

DianeB: Item was delivered promptly. It was brand new and well packaged. However, while listening to chapter #5 there is a section that is damaged. The CD loses 2 pages of sound. Unfortunate since it is brand new.

Kristen C.: Lawn Boy was one of a number of Summer reading books chosen for reading by our 10 year old prior to 6th grade; a grade or two above or below would be this book's target audience based on content and reading level.
Lawn Boy deals with the story of an unnamed 12 year-old's birthday gift of a used lawn mower and how a series of interactions while mowing lawns allows the boy to parlay his mowing money into a small fortune. The economic concepts are sound and relatable - if not a bit unbelievable in how they all pan out - but overall, Gary Paulsen writes a fun, quick reading book that both my boy, and I, enjoyed. A minor nitpick, this book does have the main character dealing with some issues in some questionable ways (having a business foe beaten up, hiring undocumented labor, paying off-the-books, etc.) but its themes, lessons and viewpoints speak well to a tween or early teenager. The content does not contain anything any reasonably unsheltered kid would be put off by.

Sumanasara: For the people who like be familliar with some terminology of economy, I think this book is very helpful. Since this fiction is written for children, they can enjoy a funny story with serious big words. Recommendable for Japanese students learning English.

Alyssa: Lawn Boy is about a 12 year old who makes money mowing lawns! It also touches on values such as community and responsibility. This would be a great book for any teachers classroom! Literally! It is appropriate for various grade levels and can be used on an individual student basis or as a classroom read aloud! I feel a math, reading, personal finance, or elementary teacher would benefit from having this book in their collection! I’m personally using it to tie into personal finance curriculum. I feel it will be a great way to tie in earning money, job skills/ responsibilities, as well as community building and the importance of community.
I’m a special education teacher, but this book is appropriate for any student who needs to learn concepts relating to earning money and being a part of a community. I think this also would be a great gift idea for a teacher you may need to buy for!
Plus, Gary Paulsen is just a phenomenal author! Known for some of his other books such as “Hatchet”, “Woodsong”, “Guts”, and “Brian’s Hunt”, this book “Lawn Boy” is another great addition to anyone’s library! The content is geared towards middle grades but can...
