I always fall in love with her characters. Thank you for this multi-layered love story. You can never go wrong starting with a boy and his (wolf)dog 😀

Debbie: This book held my attention from the start, and I will DNF a book that doesn't. A great cast of characters starting with a caring pre-teen boy who rescues an injured dog, and the surprising friends he makes as a result. Note - this is not a kid's book. The subject matters are deep, TW for some violence, but if you're like me, you'll fall in love with the main characters, and the book.
Highly recommend!

Sleepless in San Diego: Say Goodby For Now examines the societal norms in the deep south, but exhibited everywhere to lesser degrees! The author reveals some shocking scenes about people who believe in the "old ways"!
As the author notes " people listen to those who have the same beliefs"! That is the theme of this novel! Life changes almost imperceptibly sometimes and in some places!
Life is a journey no matter our circumstances! The choices we make, are often difficult and painful!

Reader Lady: An emotionally charged story with amazing characters and a great plot. This one deals with racism when it was real and completely ignored. While we still have it now, it's much better. I would love to live in a society where racism doesn't exist, but that will not happen in my lifetime. This book how's it in a way that is frightening. For grown men to viciously attach an. Eleven year old boy is horrific, but quite realistic for the year this story begins in. glad I found this one in Kindle Unlimited. Happy reading and listening!

miss a l sayer: This is my first Katherine Ryan Hyde read, and I loved it. She captures the prejudices of small minded people in the South of America. Her storytelling is sublime, exposing the racial tensions that still exist in certain places in deep South America. The story is one of hope, love and sacrifice. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It deserves a sequel to see how they all managed in their chosen lives.

Nisareen Khan: Running from a tragic past, Dr Lucy Armstrong leads a solitary life on an isolated ranch in Texas. Unfortunately it’s 1959 and the townsfolk have no interest in a lady doctor so Lucy chooses to utilise her skills in caring for abandoned animals instead.
The townsfolk are even less welcoming of the newly arrived African American, Calvin Bell and his son, Justin.
When Pete Solomon, a neglected twelve-year-old boy finds a wounded wolf-dog hybrid on the side of the road, he is told to take him to the reclusive Dr Lucy, who cares for stray animals. On the way he meets and strikes up a conversation with Justin, who shares his concern for the dog. This tentative friendship leads to a violent confrontation later between Pete and his abusive and racist father who warns him to stay away from Justin, something that Pete, doesn’t have the heart to do when he see Justin again.
The following day, after being spotted walking together by one of his father’s vindictive friends, Pete finds Justin barely conscious on the side of the road after being beaten and left for dead by a group of men. Pete takes Justin to Dr Lucy’s house, an act which sets off a series of events...

Robert Von Mayr: Add a TRIPLE WOW to that! I am a fairly voratious reader of many genres. It takes something really special to gain my entire focus. No spoilers here, and I won't summarize the plot. If you are at all like me, you've already read the editor's summary, and now you want to know what other readers THINK.
This is the first of Ms Hyde's books I have read, but it will not be the last. Her writing style flows like a calm river, supremely readable and enjoyable. Her character development and descriptions are in-depth and entirely believable, you can SEE these people, and I feel like I know them; and that I would easily recognize them if I were to encounter them..... anywhere. Even though I have a horrible memory when it comes to faces and the names that go with them! I LIKE these people, the main characters; and I DETEST the characters that the author has included who are narrow minded and judgemental. I have often wondered, myself, WHY it is that most people think it is their right to know all the private details of other peoples' lives.... I mean, knowing a lot about a politician might be important, but that is someone you are, ideally, trusting to represent you.
I was initially...

"say goodbye for now" führt uns 1959 in einen kleinen Ort in Texas.

Antann: I couldn’t put this book down but at the same time didn’t want it to come to an end. I found myself wanting to read and know more about their life together both in Texas and Philadelphia.
The author portrayed the injustice and insecurities of life within childhood and adulthood. Overcoming prejudices with a stubborn sense of what was right and wrong. She took the broken under her wing and nurtured it weather human or animal.
A thoroughly enjoyable read.
