Becky E: Its solid, held up pretty good to constant pulling and all around attacks. The latch section finally broke and we just used zipties to secure it in place. Finally our other baby gate that secures a bigger section door latch ALSO broke so now we have to buy everything over again. Not bad for 2 years worth of constant abuse

ppamppam: This gate is advertised to contain pets but it is strong enough to hold a hyper-active toddler who is yet to learn safely walking down the stairs from the 2nd floor. It is one of the best purchases I made at Amazon. Several important points:
1. DON'T: do not remove the tie-wraps on the door frame before you are 100% happy with your installation. The tie wraps keep the spring -loaded door held aligned in the "closed position." It is really very difficult to re-assemble it when the door is loose. I am writing from experience.
2. The design of the gate-door rocks. If you install it correctly and secure the shoes with a screw instead of the adhesive pad, the gate will be secure for a long time. It withstood my toddler's repeated tries of leaning on and rattling it as hard as he could.
3. The gate door opens by squeezing, with one hand, two buttons at the top and the bottom of the handle and then lifting the door up slightly. My smart toddler could not figure it out - he keeps pushing to top button on the handle.
4. So, you can open and close the gate with one hand while you carry the toddler on your other arm, for example.
5. The door can be opened in either direction....
