U.N.: Bought it for my son and daughter in law, who are living in the Pacific NE and are avid hikers and back-packers. They loved it!

abby: Love learning about new hikes in my area! This book gives great information about each region, the skill level of each hike, and what passes are required. I’ll be using this a lot to plan my hikes!

Sitting in Seattle: If you are a real hiker, get the regional Mountaineers volumes instead. This book is something of a joke for anything other than urban, casual hikers look for popular hikes.
On the plus side, it is a beautiful, well illustrated book, printed on glossy (and heavy -- not backpack friendly) paper. If you want a coffee table type book with selected "best of" and exceptionally popular hikes, this is it.
What it is NOT is comprehensive in any way, or well organized for actual hiking beyond the obvious, popular trails. Although it is quite long, it has shockingly few trails -- a total of 5 in 10000 square miles of Eastern Washington and exactly 0 (yes ZERO) in the San Juan Islands. If you think it might replace the out of print Foghorn press green "bible" of hikes -- it absolutely does not.
For the few trails it does have, the materials are not well organize or conducive to real hiking. For example, many PNW trails have specific recommended seasons, and other hiking books often list them prominently in the trail summary info, or "best of" lists such as "best hikes for early season". In this volume, that is buried in the trail description if it is noted at all. The...

Amazon CustomerAmazon Customer: Moon delivers again!! This is an excellent hiking book that goes above and beyond with additional info on local food and beer. Such a great way to think about exploring the PNW; the natural wonder and the then the people that make it so special.
I’ve been focused on the Oregon side of the guide so far and Wastrodowski’s descriptions and pictures are so great! Just masterful.
I got a kindle version too as a travel backup even though the paperback is small enough to pack, if needed. The pictures are obviously way better in print. The views are even better in person, of course, and this guide will confidently get you to them.

Rodrigo de Moura Leite Proenca: I’d pay $1000 for this book. Start of 2023 I had never hiked before and wanted to pick it up as a hobby. Problem is, as a beginner, it’s very easy to get into paralysis analysis and not know where to start. I started doing the hikes around Seattle, starting from the Discovery Park one they recommend.
Now its almost September and I probably did 50 hikes from the book that brought me lifetime memories. Thank you guys so much for the work you put in in doing this. This is one of the best ROI of investment in your life if you buy this book and actually read it and go do the hikes.
