I think its fantastically made if you know nothing about foraging and are just beginning. However. As a field guide of any sort it was sorely disappointing. The photos are difficult to make out due to being in black and white and there are so few entries it barely covers much of the PNW's edible plants. It redeems itself a little with digital media, but as I bought this as a book to take with me to identify plants specifically, I would have given this a 3 star rating. However because it is a good book, and has bonus content (albeit digitally) it gets 4 stars from me. I just recommend a less specific title, as its much more general than it suggests.

Jo: Lots of good information but all the photos are black and white. There is an option to use your phone for colored pictures but where ai hike there is no cell service so it does me no good.

G: Informative book, but I'm very disappointed in the black and white photos. It doesn't matter to me that colour photos are offered as a download. Now I need to have my phone out as well to use this book? If I had known beforehand, I would not have bought it.

Ann: I wanted a book specifically to identify plants.
There were no pictures or drawings at all.
It’s utterly useless

Darling: I'm writing this review from the position of someone who is actively going out into the wilderness for long periods of time without contact to civilization. If you want a foraging book that is compact and full of easy access info, this isnt a good choice. First off all the pictures of the plants are in black and white. You have to scan a code to see the color pictures which is not really possible in the mountains and color is essential. Now there is alot of good info in this book including gathering practices to sustain long-term foraging, but there is alot of the authors personal opinions mixed in. If you are making a home garden for wild food and herbs this book would be a good start. But for someone looking for a compact info book focused just on the plants and their uses with color images this isnt the book for it.

Wendy Overend: Just finished reading this book and highly recommend it! Willow Walsh has done a wonderful job of carefully sharing her story and wisdom with us. I am a beginning forager with a small piece of heaven here in the PNW. This book is very readable and enjoyable. I feel confident that this Spring I will begin my foraging life here at my farm and with this guidebook will do that effectively and responsibly. With this superb resource I can use foraging as a way to, as Willow says so eloquently, "become nourished from nature's bosom, equipped with the right knowledge to identify edible plants from those that are possibly harmful". I'm so excited to develop this into a lifetime hobby and share it with my grandchildren when they visit here at the farm! Thank you.
