Howard R. Fox: I have used this scanner now for 2 1/2 years and it's held up extraordinarily well with zero issues. It scans quickly with 100% accuracy and what I like the best about this is if there is a staple or bad fold that jams while scanning, it stops, allows you to fix/remove the sheet of paper in question, and then continues on where it left off. I also very much like that it produces pdf files in readable / searchable text, preserving the color of the pages and scanning both sides at the same time. If one side is blank, it "knows" this, and the blank page isn't part of the scanned file. In the past 2 1/2 years, I have scanned thousands upon thousands of documents, all with ZERO issues. I have no hesitation recommending this scanner.

Paul Walker: Purchased this although most of the web seemed to treat it as a document scanner (only Bestbuy review showed it could scan photos). Scanned 5000 five by seven photos in a week (more time sorting photos than scanning). Software is smart enough to capture back side of photo if there are any marks on it (like writing). Worked well but also captured the photo processing printing on the back (which I later delated). Did both aged photos as well as recent photos. Gentle scanning mode was good for this. Two things to be aware of (1) you need a USB 3 port on your computer (did not work reliably with USB 1) and (2) it can not handle polaroid photos (thinks they are jammed when it gets to the chemical pouch). I was previously using a flat bed scanner and this is at least 10 times more efficient and way cheaper than most scanning services.

Shai: I created 4 Job profiles in Document Capture Pro (simplex single and multi page plus duplex single 2pg plus duplex multi page and it works great. The profiles save to a designated folder (u can set diff profiles for diff clients if u like) and since I have a handful of clients this little machine is great for me.

Great compact size, scans easily, folds closed nicely to keep dust out.

Im used to using the infamous fuji scan snap that most everyone knows and loves tho I didn't want to pay that much so, for me so far, this es-400 epson is proving to be great.

I simply scan large batches of rcpts (I have the main button set to single multi since receipts are most common) then code them after (even when a prog pulls info like Neat rcpts etc I found I always had to correct things anyway) so I simply enter the info in the file name and its searchable just fine in windows.

My format as follows in case it helps any of u:
Bank Last4acct YRMODY Amt Store ExpType
cnb1234 200630 50.21 target fd pers

I have my own system been doing books for years.

Awesome value for a great scanner.
Epson for the win yet again!

paul: I’m disappointed to be returning this scanner. The sale price was excellent, but, unfortunately, the device has a number of problems that cannot be overlooked for savings.

If you need a high volume scanner to archive general administrative documents/receipts and if you are not concerned with exacting reproduction quality, than this scanner will get the job done. This scanner is a workhorse: however, it has some mechanical glitches (which may have been particular to the unit that I received) and does not produce consistently high quality results.

When I used the scanner over a period of six days, it was connected to a 2017 iMac (MacOS v.10.15.4 Catalina). Unfortunately, my troubleshooting couldn’t resolve the following issues:

1. On 6 unrelated occasions, the scanner quite expectedly while performing a multipage scan job. The job screen closed and the documents that were already scanned were lost (not recoverable), and there was no record of the aborted job. A full restart of the scan job was required. No error message accompanied these unexpected quits.

2. The third time that I used the scanner it started making a knocking/clicking noise as pages...

Silver Aspen: This is great for scanning documents. Letters, bills, invoices, etc.
Pros: (-1-) It is SUPER fast (-2-) great document feeder (-3-) nice, easy-to-use interface (-4-) awesome compact size.
Cons: (-1-) the picture quality is kind of bland. Not too many adjustments available. Standard contrast is pretty high, colours are oversaturated. As I said, it's great for documents, (black-and-white mostly), not so great where the colour is important. (-2-) it would be great if the document thickness could be adjustable. If I have 2-3 stapled pages, and if I only need to scan the top page, I cannot feed them altogether. It results in a paper jam. I need to remove the staple, scan the top page, and re-staple them together. (-3-) USB connection only (no wifi)
As I said it's a great, quick little document scanner. I'd buy it again. Just don't expect too much from it. But it works as intended.

vnums: I have hundreds if not thousands of papers in boxes and folios all throughout the house that I want to digitize and organize somewhere and throw away (recycle/shred) the physical papers that take up space. My HP all in one printer has autofeeding scan capability but it sucks. A lot. Papers constantly getting jammed and can't handle folded paper which most of what needs scanning is...

But the Epson ES-400 is perfect for my needs. Scans everything quickly, from super long carbon paper lease forms to a stack of paper with heavy creases. If there's a jam or "double feed" it just stops, and you press a button to re-adjust the paper in the tray and you're done. It also does a really good job separating each sheet, and some of the stuff I put in there had a lot of wrinkles/folds/was pretty questionable. It's super easy, fast, efficient and I had a huge tote with 15-20 hanging folders completely digitized within a few hours.

Getting it setup was almost easy as can be. I had one issue where after following the instructions completely it was saying the scanner was "busy" or unavailable, but after restarting the scanner/computer and trying a few more times I got everything...

Jonathan Friesen: This is awesome. Not too hard to set up, but once it is you can scan very very fast. If you have an estate or law case that needs large quantities of paperwork scanning, on both sides, in color, then get this. It has not missed a page yet, and the software can name files for you. Easy to change the quality so you can save space. Not wireless but that's ok because it works really fast. I reccomend this!

Love PeaceLove Peace: The Epson WorkForce ES-400 Color Duplex Document scanner comes in a nice compact size which measures about 12" L x 7" H x 7" wide with the top cover folded close. The package comes with a short starter guide. The full manual can be downloaded from the Epson website. There is no installation disk or media. We would need to download the installation software from the Epson website (address provided in the setup guide) and connect to the PC / laptop using an USB cable. The set up is pretty straight forward and the program also automatically checks for the latest software version. It also supports a large variety of operating systems (see attached photo for the list).

The scanner is operated by the Epson application called the "Document Capture Pro". We can scan the document directly to a PDF file or upload it to cloud based storage such as the Google drive. On the scan menu's main setting, we can select the source as either single or double side and set the proper resolution. The highest resolution this scanner support is 600 DPI. The scan speed is pretty fast but it does a bit longer to process the scanned document.

The feeder of this document works very well. I have...
