I used it twice a day to boil water for a kettle ... that's it. It stopped working completely after two years of that type of use.
Simple and straight forward? yes. But it should not have quit like that. It was by no means abused or left dirty. I do not recommend.

Wakiyna: I found one big issue with this is that when you put it on high, it heats up to a point, then must have a self/shut off bc it then cools down for a while before it will heat up again. Probably will be great for making coffee in a moka pot or a small kettle or pot of soup, so I’m not mad about it, but it wasn’t able to cook a full frying pan of dinner.

Mr.FixIt: This single burner coil hot plate is nice! We use this on a 1000w generator at our cabin up north and it works great! It nice and small, doesn't take up much space, and uses only 750w. The only complaint I have is the coil isn't really all that secure. They claim its for easy clean up, and it is, but make sure its laying flat before you put a pot on it. I may end up securing it to the bottom permanently, not sure yet. I haven't got to do a ton of cooking with it yet but it's definitely worth it at this price point.

Stacey: I bought this to use for winter camping in a cabin with electricity. It worked pretty well: heated quickly and evenly, easy to use (plug in and adjust the heat to desired level), and is compact (size of one regular stove burner). But I wish the electrical cord was longer and the burner is very loosely attached to the base and moves around quite a bit while you're cooking so you need to be careful when stirring and moving pots on and off the burner. Overall it will work good for occasional camping trips but I don't know that it would last too long with heavy usage.

P. Killion: Love it, works fantastic. We purchased this little burner to take on vacation with us; yes, we're 'ghetto' and like to heat things up in our room not using the microwave if possible. Now, we try not to do anything that would be smelly for neighbors or anything, so we just used it for heating up eggs for breakfast, and reheating some leftovers like fried fish which turn out a million types better pan frying than just tossing in a microwave. This little burner easily paid for itself while we did a 10-day road trip from CA to CO, it worked great. It heats up very quickly, gets very very hot (we never used it on high, even at medium high it got so hot the pam oil spray pushed past its smoke point and turned black), and surprisingly cooled down really quickly as well, within 10 minutes (probably more like 5) the thing was cold to the touch.
The only issue with this little burner would be the very short cord (for safety reasons I'm sure, its only like 2 feet), and the burner would sometimes rotate making it somewhat slanted to cook on. At this price-point though, I'm certainly not complaining, it worked like a champ, and certainly was nice to have some healthier meals cooked with...

Ronin: **This review is for the Black model ESB-300X, which is listed as 750 watts. The white model was not available when I purchased this, and is apparently listed as 1000 watts. This review is NOT for the white one, which was added later.***
I bought this to replace another older unit that is practically identical in every way, but is sold by a different company (toastmaster) and has a different knob. This new unit is clearly inferior & doesn't suit my needs at all. Allow me to explain why. I can my own food with a pressure cooker. When canning meats (in this case, homemade beef stew) you need to be extra sure that sterilization temps are being reached. I cook/can mine at 14-15 psi for 50-60 minutes. While my old unit will hold steady at 15 psi on high, this unit will barely make 5 psi & then drop down to no pressure at all, unnecessarily repeating the cycle. Both units are rated at 750 watts. I am assuming that the different knob, which also acts as a voltage/wattage regulator, is preventing the unit from reaching its full potential. This is closer to a 500 watt unit, which means it could take you 30 minutes just to boil water. I am unsatisfied, as this unit is almost...

Vernon McIntosh: I was hesitant to buy this when I read some of the reviews saying that it was not powerful enough. I actually just smoked a pork shoulder with the eye only at the medium setting. So those poeple that cant get it hot enough even on the highest setting just don't know what they are doing. ALL of the single eye burners have a "safety" feature that prevents the unit from getting too hot. The only thing you gain from buying a more powerful unit is a heat sensor that allows for a higher ambient temperature before it shuts off. If you dont mind spending the extra money then a more powerful burner is the easy fix but its overkill because you need a more you just need to get above 200 degrees before it shuts off. There are two tricks to getting this thing hot enough first and most important...YOU MUST USE A CAST IRON SKILLET OR SMOKER BOX....even if you dont need it for the wood chips. The cast iron holds enough heat that even when your eye shuts off the pot doesnt completely cool. The second trick requires a little bit of hacking but it is SUPER easy. Just unscrew the base from the heating coil, remove the wires from the contacts and put the base under your flower pot. That way you have a...
