Dylan Smith: Don't know what I really expected being how small it is, but it doesn't have great range.

BammermanBammerman: I've only had this a few days and I'm writing this review just in case you're running Mac Catalina, because I had a hard time figuring out the installation process. I eventually succeeded but not thanks to the instructions on the Edimax instructions or their website. If you are running Catalina you will definitely have to download the driver from their website (don't bother with the accompanying little cdrom). If your wifi card is working, you'll need to turn it off in System Preferences/Network; in my case, my wifi card had died, so I had nothing to turn off. You may well have to go to System Preferences/Security and Privacy, unlock that, then permit it to download from identified developers, before the installation will complete successfully. Now, here's a step that is NOT in the instructions: Once the driver installation eventually successfully finishes, and the mac restarts, look for a NEW LITTLE ICON up in the top menu bar. Find it? (see my photo -- icon looks different from this before wifi is turned on) Right-click on it and turn it on. If necessary, click on Open Wireless Utility to find your wifi network and sign on. So far, for me, this gizmo is working great -- but its...

Pixelfarmer: My aging MacBook Pro was having trouble picking up wifi unless I was right by the router, seems they have problems with the antenna breaking in old age. This fixed my problem and I get good wifi again.

It’s easy to install the driver, but sometimes seems a little slow for it to launch and acquire a signal when I wake the machine up. Sometimes the icon still shows full green bars but connection seems to stall. Reselecting the network usually corrects it. Don’t know if that’s the Edimax or a quirk of my machine, which certainly has issues.

Early on I found I had to keep switching off the built in wifi on my laptop. If it’s trying to connect and the Edimax driver is also active neither will work. I didn’t realize at first that the built in wifi would sometimes still try to launch even after I turned it off.

I tried an upgrade to Catalina and found that the driver is not compatible. That may have changed in the meantime, but I did find through search a driver that looked like it works with this device and Catalina – on Github. I’m running Mohave now and all works pretty well, certainly a lot better than the built in wifi at this point.

Ed: Surprisingly, this adapter worked nicely for me. I have Shaw Internet 150 and I was getting about 25 Mbps with my TRENDnet TPL-307E powerline adapter (speed tested with Netflix's Fast.com). I'm running Win10 x64 on a desktop.

With this adapter, I'm getting about 75 to 80 Mbps. Not bad for $20.

However, this adapter did basically nothing on my laptop. I have an old ASUS X55U that has a built-in wireless N. I get about 20 to 25 Mbps with the built-in and about 25 to 30 Mbps with this adapter. Not much of an improvement there.

slz: I had not heard of Edimax and was initially hesitant to buy this. But then I googled the company and discovered they have offices around the world, so decided to try it. This tiny wifi adapter works great! Fast speed, doesn't drop connections. And the most important is that it's so small you don't have to worry about something hitting it. I originally bought a TP-Link adapter but it was over 3 inches long and it would on occasion drop the connection. More importantly, the TP-Link had outdated firmware and despite numerous attempts with assistance from their tech support, it would not update to the latest software. The Edimax updated to the latest firmware without any problem. It's important to be able to update the firmware as fixes for security issues come out. Note that this only supports USB 2.0 (yes, it can work in a USB 3.0 connection) but the speed is terrific. It's cheap and is very reliable (have been using it for over a month now). I read on Edimax's web site that they will have a version out soon that supports USB 3.0, but given that this USB 2.0 version gives me over 200 mbs on my Internet connection, that's sufficient for me.

steve: I was pretty sceptical when I bought this thinking that it probably wouldn't work but I was wrong. It took less than 2 minutes to install drivers and when I did a speed test on my WiFi after the install I was getting 3 times the speed as before. I can't believe how well this works. It's definitely worth the money. I was ready to retire my old laptop but now that I've got this handy gadget I can keep using it for years to come. I ordered it last night at 6:00 and it was in my mailbox at 9:00 this morning. So no doubt about it. This product works great so far. Hopefully it will continue to work in the months to come.

Victoria: I have a macbook pro 2015 with retina display. It seems I've had a lot of problems with this computer, but that's besides the point. Among all the issues I've had, the wifi was by far the most bothersome. Imagine having a 2000 grand computer but it not being able to connect to wifi (????). Completely absurd. I've looked far and wide on the internet about how to rectify the situation, I've been on the phone with apple for hours, I even considered bringing my computer to the apple store and spending well over 500$ to fix the "hardware issue". Luckily, I found this little gadget on an article claiming to work on all computers including macs. I was skeptical but let me tell you, this is no gimmick. It works like a dream. For the price, give it a shot and you won't be disappointed. So glad i made this purchase before spending my hard earnd cash with the "geniuses" of Apple.

jodarejodare: I received the adapter within 2 days after purchase, which was great. I plugged it into a USB 2 port on my old Dell M6400 laptop and then tried loading the driver from the mini-CD that comes with the adapter. My DVD player/recorder is just a slide in, without a pop-out caddy, so I couldn't use the mini-CD. Fortunately, there was a newer version of the driver on the EDIMAX website, so I downloaded and installed it, rebooted my laptop (required) and wah-lah it connected to my 802.11ac router with no problems.

The speed was only 390 Mbps, which was a little disappointing since my Linksys External AC1200 adapter ran at 585-867 Mbps depending on my proximity to the router. I started moving the adapter to other USB ports, including a USB 3 port, but it still connected at 390 Mbps. Finally, I moved it to another USB 2 port, and suddenly I started getting a steady 520-585 Mbps (I'm not an electronics specialist, but the only difference I saw between the USB ports, is that this one was close to the internal antenna terminals).

Anyway, considering the small size of the EDIMAX adapter, I am pleased with the performance (so far), and I can stop worrying about breaking off the...
