Tested with `speedtest-cli` command-line Python tool in Windows and Linux
- This tool connects to speedtest.net without all of the fluff, graphics,
browser, and ads which otherwise get in the way and interfere with the
quality of internet speed tests
To install in Linux Ubuntu:
sudo apt install python-pip
sudo pip install speedtest-cli
To install in Windows:
Google how to install Python and Pip in Windows, then run in the
Command Prompt run:
pip install speedtest-cli
To run the internet speed test from the command line in Windows or Linux:
speedtest-cli

BillyBob64: This seems to work as advertised, BUT: I have been disappointed with the speed, though I don't think it is all due to this device. Maybe nothing to do with it. This was part of a 2 part order. The other part was another brand powerline adapter kit rated at 600mbps. The main purpose of thiis order was to get a usable ethernet network/internet connection to my MAC Air laptop. Mission accomplished. But, I was expecting, as a bonus, increased speeds. From what I was reading in reviews, significantly increased. But alas, my speed was cut by MORE than 1/2 compared to my wifi. For ex., I checked as I am writing this, and it is 107 Mbps download on WiFi, vs 30 via my my powerline ethernet/USB 3 adapter connection. But OK, I understand that is probably all or mostly due to trying to get a good signal through my house wiring via the power line adapter. However, when I bypass the power line, and plug this device straight into my Xfinity router via CAT 5E cable, I still can not quite match my wifi speed! But close. So at least 90% of the decrease is NOT due to this device. But I was expecting an increase! For that reason I am taking off a star, I hope that is justified. Could it be old CAT 5E...

Maxwell: The adapters eventually worked, but they were certainly not plug and play. I needed them for 3 computers, after lightning had fried the internal network adapters on the computers. Two of the computers were Windows 7 Professional. I plugged in the adapters, and received a message that no driver could be found. I connected the ethernet cable, but no connection was found. I tried a few things, but no luck. I was ready to give up and return them, but then I went into 'Device Manager' and uninstalled the existing adapters. After re-starting the computers, the system popped up a message asking if it could install some software for a Realtek USB Ethernet connection (or something like that, I didn't record it word for word) from the CD drive. I thought that was odd, since I didn't have a CD in the CD drive, but I clicked 'Yes'. The system installed the driver and computer could now access the Internet using the Rankie USB Ethernet Network Adapter. This worked for both Windows 7 computers.

The other computer was even a bit trickier. This one was running Windows Server 2008. I wasn't confident that it would work on this machine, especially after trying the two Windows 7 computers...
