C.A. Gray: It’s rare that I’m truly impressed by a book on health. Most of them say the same (albeit good) things: eat right, exercise, get enough sleep, minimize your stress. That seems to be the last half of nearly all of them, and in many cases the final portion is taken up with recipes. Because this is what I do all day (naturopathic medicine), I’m looking for something truly new that can expand my toolbox for treating patients.
Many people are interested in how to age well and stay healthy longer, but usually longevity too seems limited to aesthetics, or studies that show this or that supplement might lengthen telomeres, decrease inflammation or oxidative stress, etc. This book offered something new, though: a broader context for why certain treatments might work.
First, it introduced me to the concept of hormesis, which I knew quite well before without knowing what to call it. Now I realize that most of my favorite modalities work exactly this way: giving the body a push in the direction it’s already going so that it will self-correct in the opposite direction. Having a name and a concrete description of the concept seems to broaden my understanding of other...

Kindle Customer: I enjoyed reading the book. It was easy to understand even with so much information. The only thing I did not enjoy was their promotion products. Found a good amount of different products that were talked about. Besides that, It's a good book.

idontwantapenname: Didn't get much from the re hashing of Blue Zones and their diets. After reading this same information for several years now I don't need to review it again. The data and insight on protein and salt was great. What we really need is a concise list of what we should not eat, which the book provides. The rest is window dressing.

VFA: I ordered this book yesterday, and I am almost finished with it. I have read many health books, and have followed their advice which has been very helpful for my health, but I wanted to know the scientific details about why my blood markers including A1C improved so much. This book does just that. I rarely write reviews, but this book deserves a glowing recommendation. It is extremely well written, and discusses the science behind the Gundry, Hyman, Asprey and the others at the forefront of nutrition today. I am so impressed and have learned so much from the book. I am "science" person so the details really helped explain things. Thank you for writing this book and making it so understandable.

newoptions: I though this book would be more along the lines ‘the diabetes code’ by Dr Fung. Which I found amazing. This book so far has been over the top, so much detail and has many contradicting points. So one can basically draw whatever conclusion one likes based on the vast array of facts, as they present so many facts related to many topics.
Like a major point of ‘the diabetes code’ was cut alcohol and sugar. Here there is a whole chapter on the benefits of alcohol. Even though they say their advice is not for problem drinkers, and only applies basically to one cup of wine with dinner and no social drinking. I thought they should have written more on the addictive nature of alcohol.
I have the kindle book and I am listening to it on Audible. It is not read by the authors, what a pity, I think they missed a great opportunity to expand on their work, like David Goggins’ did in the audible book ‘can’t hurt me’, and I often find when authors don’t read their books, it generally sounds kind of lifeless.
Still plenty of great advice, like don’t add milk and sugar to tea, and try to drink plenty of green tea hot or cold during the day.

Taxodium: A lot of the information such as calorie restriction, fasting, and some food choices is excellent. However, foods to fight cancer is mostly missing. I would recommend Richard Beliveau's book FOODS TO FIGHT CANCER and checking the internet for articles about food compounds mentioned in the book and how they are being studied in regard to cancer. It's difficult to get everything right and the book's mentioning casein as a protein source gets called into question by the article "A Milk Protein, Casein, as a Proliferation Promoting Factor in Prostate Cancer Cells". Also, the exercise recommendations seem outdated and are missing precautions that would have saved me from needing knee replacements. As author Doug McGuff, M.D. says in his book BODY BY SCIENCE Kenneth Cooper could be called " the man who destroyed America's knees". I think running would be fine if there are sand dunes to run on to reduce the impact on kneesand if your skeleton is perfectly aligned. Also, i would recommend periodic X-rays by an orthopedic surgeon to check for cartilage wear especilly on the nees and shoulders. Resistance training, as well as running, can accelerate cartilage loss. Bodybuilder Frank Zane, a...
