T-Rex: I'm a retired meteorologist and was sad when my Davis Vantage Pro weather station got damaged by large hail. I got this as a replacement costing half as much, but as a professional I trusted the Davis Instruments name. This system was well-packaged, came with excellent instructions and was easily assembled. The only challenge was finding a PVC pole the right diameter to mount it on, but that's not the station's fault. It's been operational a couple of months now with no problems, and the readouts appear to be very accurate when compared to other weather stations in the area.

Nick Lansley: There is just no equal to the survivability of this device which has to cope with the winds battering it. This is our second device, the first one is still in use after 7 years but its solar panel is losing its electricity raising power and the battery is taking too much load all the time. It will be a worthy donor should I have any need for backup parts.

Tim UrbergTim Urberg: I purchased this as an upgrade to an Acurite 5-in-1 about a month ago and so far I'm glad I did. I had the 5-in-1 for about 9 months and what did it for me was when it would report temperatures up to 10 degrees above all the other weather stations around me. So I switched to this one knowing the name and here's some of the other pros vs the Acurite:

1. 2.5 second updates, this allows me to send data to Weather Underground using their "Rapid Fire" option. Acurite had an 18 second update and would not send as much data. So when I tried to do RF with it, there was no wind gusts. Davis sends all of the data with each LOOP transmission.

2. Better integration with WeeWX. From what I've read Acurite refuses to give out any technical information specs, so the WeeWX team had to reverse engineer to get it to work. The result was less than perfect to say the least. Davis, on the other hand has much better integration, including the ability to update the console with the "wee_device" command. I am using a Weather Envoy, and was able to set the GPS coordinates, altitude, time zone, etc all from the wee_device command. You cannot do that with Acurite, it has no support for...

Andreas: Stazione meteo a livelli professionali e molto precisa: dopo l’installazione ho comparato i dati mostrati con indicazioni di altri sensori di diverse apparecchiature meteo e sono risultati allineati.
Il manuale è interamente in inglese e la configurazione non è del tutto intuitiva quindi non si può evitare il manuale.
L’installazione è immediata (a parte per la bandiera per la direzione del vento, che va posizionata in modo corretto), considerando che la stazione è preassemblata per l’80%.
Unico punto negativo è stata la consegna, dato che la stazione è stata bloccata per settimane in dogana in attesa di semplici info mie: magari si sarebbero potute fornire all’atto dell’acquisto evitando tale perdita di tempo. Il venditore mi aveva comunque informato del blocco, cosa non fatta dal corriere (la comunicazione con il corriere, DHL, ha richiesto diverse ore di pazienza al telefono aspettando risposta dal call center).
La stazione va posizionata in area priva di ostacoli nelle vicinanza, per non generare rotori, e va allineata con lo specchio solare verso sud, per permettere il calcolo corrette della direzione del vento.

TJ: This weather station can really handle the cold winter here in central Manitoba .
With the temperatures in the low -30C and wind chills of -45C for 8 weeks (one of the coldest winters that I can remember in my 50 years) this station worked excellent .
Very accurate in all its functions .

Well its 18 months later and the unit has issues with the rain gauge
Upon reading some forums on the internet there are many other people with the same problems and within the same time frame from purchase (12 to 18 months) Yes right after the warranty runs out .
Phoned Davis Tech support and they seemed to know what the problem was almost right off the bat . Hmmm.
There is a small electrical board about the size of a loonie (Canadian Dollar coin) that becomes faulty.
Ok now we know about this common problem lets replace it.part no.7345.916
Holy Crap !! Davis wants $90 for this $2 board thats made in China and $35 to ship it !!!???
This little thing can be put in envelope and mailed for under $2.
So for $125 i guess I'm going without a rain gauge

I've had my unit for just over 5 years now (bought in November 2013), and am still very pleased with my purchase. I still give it 5 stars.

Perhaps some would take a star off for not having convenient, inexpensive Internet connectivity, but 95% of my needs are satisfied without that connectivity. My son was interested in getting a nice weather station and "hemmed and hawed" about Internet connectivity, which some others do a fine job of. I suggested to him that he might regret going with the others because of reliability and breakage. He decided to agree with me, and now has one of these too (hundreds of miles away). It's now 1 year old. He loves it.

My unit has been rock-steady reliable over 5 full years. No physical failures at all. It looks just fine, no degradation of plastic parts is visible. Anemometer, wind vane and rain sensors seem perfect.

I moved the unit from the corner of my deck to a pole mount farther away in the back yard because of some deck changes. It's now on a heavy galvanized steel pole.

The only thing I have had to do with it is replace the lithium backup battery (after about 3 years?). My unit gets...
