GO: This is an excellent light for riding at night. The 550 lumens is sufficient to light up the road or sidewalk. You will be able to be seen from a distance. As with other lights this bright and rechargeable, a full charge only last for about 2 hours with the maximum brightness. You have several settings that may extend the life before you need a recharge.

Eh to the Zed: This is my third Cygolight product in 12 years. I still have the first one, so these things are built to last. This light is perfect for urban use, or as a backup for mountain biking. The brightness is accurate (about 550 lumens) but more importantly, the beam is evenly distributed over a wide area. Cheap lights will have a spotlight effect. Very study mount (I ride 3' drops and this does not move) and easy to install. Battery life is excellent, as described by the manufacturer. I also use this as a flashlight for night walks - the shape is easy to carry. Highly recommend.

Kevin Humphrey: So far this has been working great. Bright enough that I usually only use it on the medium setting. The battery doesn't last as long as I'd like but it's small and lightweight so I think it balances out okay. Very secure and rugged handlebar mount, the light itself releases quickly and easily but there is no risk of it accidentally falling off.

Jeffrey Matt: Great bike light. It's a big step in quality up from cheaper lights - both build quality and quality of light. Their are lots of nice features, remembers the last setting, and the recessed light means that there's no glare that shines up to the rider. But the standout feature is that its bright. Be mindful of others and do not point this light level across the road, it's meant to point slightly down to prevent blinding other drivers/riders. The only issue is that the mount is very secure - good that there's no way its rattling and falling off, but it an be a chore to remove. Maybe it'll get easier as it breaks in. Other than that, great light.

CanadianBob: I have strong mixed feeling about this light after several months of use.

Here's the GREAT:
* It's a strong bright light
* There's lots of different settings, no matter what output you want, it's likely got you covered.
* It's super sturdy. You drop this on a cement floor, you're going to risk denting the floor. The light will be fine.

Here's what SUCKS:
* If you use it on a bright setting, you're going to be recharging it every day or two.
I cycle 45 mins to work and then home again. If it's cold out, the light will be dead in one day. In summer, it'll last two days. Very disappointed.
* The mount isn't solid. I've tightened it several times but it keeps working itself loose. Maybe I've got a defective one, or (more likely) maybe the makers didn't design it to be used on real-world streets that aren't super smooth.

So, here's my 2 cents... If you're riding short distances in warm weather and want a REALLY BRIGHT LIGHT then, this is for you. For $ for lumens, it's a bargain. But, if you're going good distances between USB access, and your streets aren't immaculate, maybe consider another product.

Paul H: I spent way more time than I should have comparing bike lights, but hey, that’s bike geek thing. I thought I’d share and maybe help out someone else.

For me it came down to the Cygolight 550 and the Light and Motion 350. Both had good and bad reviews but there were more comments about short battery life on the 350 so (for me) that tipped the scales to Cygolight. I’ve done about 4 night rides and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

Pros for the Light and Motion (based on reviews) is practically waterproof and has ‘sidelights’. The Cygolight is ‘water resistant’ and no sidelights. If you want to take the light on and off the bike all the time you might prefer a rubber strap mount but I leave it on and prefer the solid screw mount of the Cygolight. I’m starting to use the light more even during the day-so it stays on the bike.

This Cygolight has 6 settings high, medium, low, medium/flashing walk and strobe. Unless you have terrible night vision you probably don’t need more than medium most of the time- medium also extends the battery life. (It does remember the last setting used). High is very bright and low is great for dawn/dusk riding....

JDV: I've been happy with this light the first 3-4 times I've used it. Easy to mount, even on my wide handlebars on my Trek 7.3 Men's hybrid which has significantly thicker handlebars than my wife's 7.2 womem's Trek hybrid. The screwing portion of the tightening knob on the bottom unscrews to allow nicely for a fit around a wider circumference and once tightened it feels very secure on the handlebars, and still allows for a bit of lateral movement to illuminate directly in front or slightly to the sides, as needed. The charging ability via USB is very handy as well.

The brightest setting makes seeing in pitch black a breeze and you feel comfortable and secure riding around at 15 mph and there is no worry of coming up on something too quickly or not seeing the road far enough in advance. The beam is kind of a large circular area with a smooth transition to the outer field of vision which is still light but not as much so. My wife has the Metro 400 and that seems like a suitable amount to see well too. I might at times use the middle setting on this 550, which is a medium brightness, but the low setting seems a bit too low to be useful when riding. Perhaps if you undock it and use...

D. Alexander: This is an impressive light. I marvel that LED technology has progressed so quickly in the past few years. It's probably better than any one-piece light you could have gotten five years ago at any price. I bought one for use with a road-biased hybrid. Measured weight is 110g for the light and 32g for the included bar mount.

It's powerful. The lowest setting would be ideal for walking around a campsite. The highest makes my capable Black Diamond headlamp from 2012 seem like a dollar-store flashlight. The beam dispersion pattern is oblong, a useful improvement over a more claustrophobic narrow spot. Blink modes are visible head-on in broad daylight, but don't have enough lateral feedback to replace side reflectors.

It's durable. I took mine apart. The front plastic piece is robust and held on by three long screws; removing it reveals a battery encased in thick plastic and the LED assembly. Typical of 'name' gear and often lacking in knockoffs, the LED is properly cooled by heat-conducting paste and an iron backer. The lens ahead of the LED is a solid cone abutting the front plastic with a rubber waterproofing gasket. While the outer case will abrade if you drop it on...
