Tony CTony C: I Like having a clear view of the filler. Easy install one bracket and two adapter nipples for the inlet and outlet on the filter; that was easy and the rest of the work was to hook it up is the plumbing part and that is easy if you're handy. Can't blame the filter for any issues if you have problems with the plumbing.
Note: The rest of the plumbing has nothing to do with how much work it is to install the filter to the pipes. So don't blame the filter for problems you might have with the plumbing part other than mounting and screwing in two adapter nipples. If you are at all handy and have the skill to perform what it take for the plumbing part the install will go smoothly. Some reviews say it was difficult to instal it's not if you have plumbing skills. It's a good solid filter.

John DeCorso: A bit of a challenge to find the right connectors to adapt to my 3/4 inch copper pipe, but I'm handy at that, so all good. No loss of water pressure in our house. A good quality unit, more robust than the old one I had.

Vincent Price - NOTVincent Price - NOT: I purchased and installed this filter specifically for my fridge: Because my fridge has a very proprietary GE filter that is supposed to last 6 months at a time but keeps getting clogged with sediment after only 3 weeks of use (and I can't afford replacing filters at $55 a piece every 3 weeks), I installed this Culligan filter to help pre-filter the water before it gets to my fridge's more expensive filter. It did do the trick and didn't seem to drop the water pressure at all. Since it's only supplying water to my fridge, I expect the Culligan filter inserts to last much, much longer than the six months it's rated for when used for a whole house.
This was a pain to install because of the way it was designed, but it was well worth it at the price.
It would have been a bit easier to install if the manufacturer had used something smaller than 1-inch threaded openings for the inlet and outlet -- it took me a couple of hours at my local big orange DIY store to find the right combination of fittings that would go from my 3/4 or 1/2 inch copper pipes in my house to the inlet and then from the outlet to the right fittings to fit my fridge water/icemaker water supply hose. I did...

ChristianT: Bought the Culligan as a replacement to a same sized GE unit which cracked after more than 10 years of use. It is very well made and comes with a decent mounting bracket which is a must because these types of filters are very difficult to unscrew. The bypass valve is very stiff and is probably meant to be like that because the wrench to undo the filter also has a slot to fit over the bypass valve handle. One note, on the GE filter I had to change the O-ring with every filter change because it would stretch when unscrewing the filter...not sure how it will be with the Culligan; the O-ring is much thicker...and is expensive! Culligan filters, at least on Amazon, are more expensive than other filters. Finally, someone mentioned that the female threads are plastic and prone to stripping: like all such products you have to screw it in delicately by hand as far as possible BEFORE using any mechanical tightening aid. Also remember to use a fair amount of teflon tape.

Lost in ParadiseLost in Paradise: TL;DR
1. Use a serious amount of teflon tape on the threads and follow the reviewer who said 'turn it CCW first until you feel it seat, then start tightening
2. Build your own bypass system if possible (see photo)
3. the big box stores sell couplers that are metal on one side and PVC on the other (if you are worried; i used them simply because I have CPVC [manilla colored; rated for drinking water] and the inputs to the filter are PVC [normal white] sized. I didn't have any issues with metal to plastic because i followed number 1 above)
4. when using PVC glue, follow the directions and use it generously. Use the primer (i've sometimes not used it, but water in the basement isn't an area you want to play with; and one connection did leak once on me when installing it because i didn't prime/glue it properly)
I was very nervous to install this, but my water is horrendous (see shower filter photo; the one on the left is 3 months old, the white one on the right is the new one). I read all the reviews (including the one that said 'if the bypass valve doesn't turn easy, return it' and the ones that stated the threads leaked because of the metal threads going into the...

ATC123: I would have given this 5 stars except for the fact that I find it hard to unscrew when it comes time to replace the filter. The clear housing and pressure release work perfectly but even when I do not tighten it much, it seems at after a couple months it is hard to loosen. I had anchored it pretty securely (4 lag bolts into the stone wall) and I am glad I did. The overall design is good and I am very pleased with its performance and being able to see the condition of the filter is a real plus.
