Texas Flounder: Imagine if a home furnishings store sold only blue and white furniture, bedding, draperies, rugs, artwork, dishes, etc. Not blue OR white, but blue AND white- in every conceivable pattern. Now imagine if an interior designer had an unlimited budget, but could only purchase things from this blue and white store. You now have the gist of Beautiful: All American Decorating and Timeless Style. I never knew rooms could be packed with so many different patterns of blue and white and only blue and white. I understand that most decorators like to use certain color schemes, but such schemes are generally subtle and well blended so that they can be appreciated without being overly obvious. The rooms depicted in this book are the equivalent of having your head pounded into the wall with the decorator yelling out, "THE THEME OF THIS ROOM IS BLUE AND WHITE! DO YOU LIKE THIS BLUE AND WHITE ROOM?!? DID YOU NOTICE THAT EVERYTHING IS BLUE AND WHITE?!? " I have nothing against blue and white color schemes, I would just prefer not to have my eyes bleed from looking at nothing but blue and white. C. Louise Krautheim: This is one of the best decorating books I have gotten in a long time. Cannot wait til Mark's next book is out. I love the way the chapters are done by color scheme, etc. I am a neutral person and I found so many decorating ideas that I hope to use in my new townhome. I was never a Blue person, but the blues are so beautiful and I hope to incorporate into my color schemes. I find green to be one of my favorites. These tranquil colors can be used in any room or sunroom of your home. His decorating style is exactly what I want for my new home. His arrangement of furniture and decorating ideas are outstanding. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for new and refreshing styles for decorating. I would give this book a 5-Plus. I cannot wait to incorporate a lot of Mark's ideas into my home.

Sheherazade: This is probably one of the best interiour design books I have and I got quite a few.
Absolutely wonderful style. Many books only got a few great pages, but here, the entire book is a pleasure to look at. It is an easy, effortless style. A style that is not just nice to look at, but where you can actually imagine to live in. It is certainly a quite American style, as they title suggests, but didn't go overboard on wallpapers etc, which is sometimes difficult to swollow for us in Europe. If you like different patterns, colours but all without being too much or too uneasy on the eye, then this might be a book for you. There are mainly shades of blue and beiges, but it doesn't get boring. I can highly recommend this book! Nancy Meyer wrote the foreword and it is probably quite like interiour design is shown in her films.

Jenny G: This is a beautiful book! The book is based on specific color schemes, so if those color schemes aren't present in your own home (as is my case) you may not directly relate to the lovely photos. Still, I enjoyed looking at the photos and still found some inspiration - mostly that I need to add a few more pieces of blue and white porcelain into my Living Room.

Each page has text to describe the photo. Some of the text started with a larger font and I found it was helpful to read these descriptions as they provided some of the inspiration regarding the photos. In other cases, the photo text was smaller and merely describing what was in the photo. As I got about 2/3 through the book I found myself skipping the captions with smaller print as I didn't think they really added to the photo itself and I just wanted to enjoy! In other words, they were more of a distraction.

My favorite chapter was on the color red - Excellent!

Leslie: Nice addition to your interior design library

I greatly enjoyed seeing Mark Sikes work from the first time I saw him featured on
the cover of House Beautiful a few years ago. I was eagerly awaiting getting
this book and pre-ordered it last Spring. However, I'm just a little disappointed.
I wish Rizzoli had published this in a larger size(as they do with many of their design
books) and that the paper was in a glossy finish instead of the matte finish. I think
the end result would have then done more justice to Mark's pictures. I also wish
more photos had been shown of his own home, including those of his lovely
garden. I found the pages that had script writing and the pages numbers to be
distracting and messy looking. It's so opposite his style of clean and simple lines.

Hope we can look forward to future books from this very talented interior designer!
