ritesh: The books has been written by a doctor who faced health problems which he and his doctor colleagues could not solve and which made him dive deep into body functions. First Half of the book is very very interesting as he describes his experiences and relates it to the functions of GUT and all the details. The clean gut program he has prescribed may work well with US European people. For Indians u might have to find alternatives. A big section of the book is recipies most of them are non-veg and non indian ingrediants which i didnt find useful enough. But the book is excellent and its a must read for health conscious people.

abb1812: I own both the Clean, Clean Eats and this book, Clean gut.
I did the original Clean Cleanse a while ago and recently did another, shorter one, where I considered this book. There are a number of flaws with this book, which is why I would recommend the original programme to anyone interested rather than this one.
The flaws are:
- Contradictory food advice/no proper explanation on certain foods:
There is no explanation in either books, why potatoes are bad for you. Most European /other language books/advice websites on the topic recommend cold potatoes, as the starch in it changes when it cools and is very beneficial for your gut. Both books simply "forbid" you to eat potatoes. No explanation or insight into why. More troubling, Clean Gut specifically includes eggs in many recipes, while at the same time listing them as one of the most frequent toxic triggers in the section on reintroducing food. So first you eat them almost every day (or every second day) and then you are to see at the end if they cause any problems?
There is also no explanation why suddenly brown rice - something of a staple food for these cleanses - is now in the "bad" list. I also felt that the...

Maggie Percy: To give a background on my opinion, I have two degrees in Biology, and a lot of experience reading and studying about health and nutrition, because I spent a lot of time healing myself with the help of many holistic practitioners. I care about my health, but like most people, I have habits that aren't that great, plus I had lifelong health challenges that handicapped me a bit in reaching my health goals. Yet I have enjoyed learning and applying a variety of methods and programs that have been a huge help to me. My husband and I went on the Paleo lifestyle two years ago, and we had great results. But I knew I needed more help to go to the next level. When I saw this book, I knew it was the next step for us.
Dr. Junger writes compellingly about the relationship between gut health and all kinds of physical issues, but even more intriguing, he presents good evidence that strain on the gut can be a major contributor to depression and lack of intuitive guidance, because when the gut is stressed, it goes into survival mode instead of performing the nice functions that can make life happier or easier for you.
My husband and I went on the 21-day cleanse. This is likely not...

Helenebaskit: I've read both Clean and Clean Gut and the content is very different. Dr. Junger goes into far more detail about our digestive system, gut dysfunction, autoimmune diseases, infertility and depression in Clean Gut. I was surprised to learn that there are more foods allowed on the Clean Gut version that were not a part of Clean; a few nightshades, (such as tomatoes), lentils, grass fed meat and eggs. Last year I had tried Clean and loved it but eventually fell back into my old ways. Especially with my coffee/tea, dairy and the occasional wheat product. When Clean Gut came out it inspired me to try again. All I can tell you is how fantastic I feel after doing this program. I gave up caffeine, sugar, dairy and grains completely. Once I got past the first week it was like I was a whole new person. Now my skin is clear(eczema gone), my eyes are brighter and I have new energy. Plus I lost ten pounds. Despite the fact that he gives great detail on how to reintroduce the toxic triggers I feel a bit worried about consuming the foods that make me feel terrible. I know for a fact that wheat is the absolute worst offender (I get extremely ill and won't go into gory detail) and sugar makes me...

Paulina: I've read a lot of nutrition books, been on many diets... all in an effort to fix my nagging health issues: migraines, arthritis, heart palpitations, nerve pain, constipation, anxiety, bloating, on and off again mild depression, psoriasis... you name it. I've also been about 5-10 lbs. overweight for several years and I just wasn't able to control my eating (I am a pastry chef). I just got so fed up with our medical system... giving me antidepressants for my constant headaches (15 days out of the month on average) that may have worked short term, but then stopped leaving me with unwanted weight gain and severe withdrawal symptoms. Doctors were just always trying to put a bandaid on things with prescription drugs. Never did I really stop and think, "why"? or "could it be something I'm doing"? If I did, I just couldn't figure it out on my own. I blamed some of it on the Lyme disease for which I was treated for three years (thanks to my doctor refusing to test me saying "you don't have Lyme Disease"! and treating me like a hysterical woman. Then I saw Dr. Junger on Dr. Oz. I have really strong intuition and I heard myself saying "this is the answer!" It was truly an "aha"...

edbd: The premise is great - our health and well being take daily nourishment from our gut ecosystem. When it flounders due to poor diet and toxins in our environment our whole health suffers in time, often inexplicably.
The literary style is adequate for the subject matter, although a lot of the seven introductory chapters seem to ramble on too much with personal woes and the trials and tribulations of the author's life. As an aside, I could find no mention of an editor in the credits. I kept finding myself wondering when the author would stop talking about his life story and start talking clearly about the subject matter - achieving a clean gut. After three chapters, I got so bored I jumped to the programme itself which is a set of shake recipes and meal plans.
I did go back and read the skipped chapters, however although it was useful background information it felt as if the author had missed a trick to motivate the reader with this information.
It's a shame there is little empirical evidence in the book for such an important proposal - to change your diet so dramatically beyond the letters from those who've completed the programme and a handful of case...
