B. Bird: After seven years of our family excitedly reading the devotional every year and a cornerstone to our holiday I bought three more for my daughters to have when they grow. Reading the negative reviews I would say this book is beautiful interpretation of the Jesse Tree and Christmas story… now if you are a fundamentalist this isn’t for you because I think nothing less than pure scripture would be adequate and so just read scripture and have a family discussion. This poetic language and Love focused lens of Christmas story has introduced Christ to my young daughters in a way they understand and planted mustard seeds of faith I have watched begin to sprout year round.
If your family wants a story to fall in love with the mystery of the Birth of Christ this is a beautiful tradition. If you want purely scripture based, fire and brimstone theology…. Not for you.

bargaingigi: I bought one of these beautiful books, but then ended up buying one for every child in our family! This was a truthful look at how the Old Testament told of the coming of the Messiah. It gracefully leads children and adults alike to know their value in the story of Christ. He has come for each of us! We love because He loved us enough to come and die for us! I love how this book takes families through advent and even offers Christmas ornaments that can be printed and colored for a more hands-on experience.

>^..^<: I bought this for myself (no kids at home) to use with my Jesse Tree. This book is phenomenal. There is such depth and such beautiful thoughts. Someone mentioned that they didn't feel like it was Scriptural (ex. God's tears for the flood) but I didn't read it that way at all. I didn't feel like she was saying that the flood was God crying. It was more of an illustration of God's sadness over our sin. I saw her thoughts as a good way of looking at God's love for us. It was extremely meaningful to me. It helped to connect the Old Testament stories with the Good News of Christ's coming.
The pictures are lovely and there is a code in the book that you can use to get pictures of the ornaments from the book to print out on your computer to use.
I also bought the adult version, but liked this version better. I would highly recommend this book!

Marci Hobbs: Best book other than the Bible about Advent or the Birth of Christ. A friend showed me this and read the introduction to me and I fell in love with the words. I immediately ordered one for my granddaughter for her girls for Christmas. When I tried to buy more, Amazon was already out. We began looking for it at all Bible bookstores in our area until all were gone. We took one of the books to the Women's prison where we visit with the girls and began reading it to them. They LOVED it and wanted to take turns reading. Each Friday before Christmas we read several days. One night we finished the reading of the day on the calendar. We asked it they wanted to keep reading and they said no, they wanted to save it until the last Friday before Christmas. So we started going over some of the questions and they opened up talking about how much reading this book had meant to them. At one point one of the girls said that the best thing that had happened to her was being in prison. i could go on and on about how God has used this book in our small community. We have given many books away after taking it homes and reading the introduction and maybe one day's reading. I wish Ann Voscamp could see...

Diana E. Natalie JohnsonDiana E. Natalie Johnson: Having been greatly blessed through 'One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are', we incorporated much of Anne Voskamp's second book, 'The Greatest Gift: Unwrapping the Full Love Story of Christmas' into our small group worship times leading up to Christmas last year. We even had our own Jesse Tree (an upside-down cedar branch) with all the lovely little paper ornaments hanging from it inside our front door. By the time Christmas arrived I could point to each one, tell that part of God's story and how it connects to the birth of Christ.
This year we pre-ordered 'Unwrapping the Greatest Gift: A Family Celebration of Christmas', thinking it might be something we could work through with the children in our group during advent season.
When I opened the amazon box the cover of this beautiful book took my breath away. It is stunning throughout and a gift to children of all ages. The simple thoughts to discuss and suggested activities at the end of each section are helpful and totally doable.
Through this beautiful new gift of a book, Anne's writing will continue to bless countless families as they dig deep and discover so much more meaning to the...

JM7: My 18 month old loved this book! We paired them with Jesse tree ornaments. It was a little off and we had to switch the ornaments to make them work but we actually prefer the story choices in this book! We love the thoughts to discuss and activity of the day too. Really went done
