Genie: Although some times this book felt slow, overall it was a good read. I love her insights into her characters.
Good strong character development . The psychiatrist was believable.
Its nice to read a book with no murders . Also a book that isn't just about sexual relationships, but realistic social interaction.

SMLreader: It was a little slow to start but the last half was excellent! It reminds us that there are many types of families.

Karen: Marvellous book about the strengths and weaknesses of the main character, Aiden, and the role Aiden plays to his soon to be stepson. Aiden earns the respect from his soon to be wife, Gwen and his stepdaughter, Elizabeth.
A must read for anyone who is interested in a book full of emotions.

P. Didur: An interesting story of sensitivity, abuse and life choices. I think there could have been alot more development of Aiden and Gwen's relationship, it would have made more sense about how they could survive such challenges with her son. As usual, Hyde draws on her real-life farm/ranch experiences to build a believable background to the story.

Kindle Customer: I read this book very quickly. It's a pleasant easy read story with a difference. It has the "feel good factor." It's well written and the story has more depth than I was expecting. This is the first book I have read by this author but will be reading more.

K. Davis: Aiden's new girlfriend has a young son with deep problems and a daughter as sweet as a sunrise. His neighbouring ranchers have combined ranch chores like cutting out the calves for branding and they rely on Aiden to share in the work, but Aiden is uncomfortable with treating the animals so unfeelingly. At the same time his potential step-son Milo does something cruel to the dog and Aiden is angrier than he thinks is justifiable. He starts seeing a lady shrink. With her subtle guidance, he begins seeing a parallel between the boy and himself as a boy. Their relationship begins to open up a healthy path into their futures, together and individually.

Suze Lavender: When an old feeling reawakens in Aiden he can no longer do his job the way he used to. He was a successful cattle farmer, but experiencing the pain of animals makes it impossible for him to continue. The wake up also has another effect. Aiden used to suppress his feelings, not letting anyone in and blocking every possible emotion. This helped him to get by for many years, but now he has to find a different way to cope. His change costs him his relationship and makes him find new love. His girlfriend Gwen is a single mother with two children. Her daughter Elizabeth is easy to get along with, but her son Milo is struggling with traumas of the past.
Milo is acting out. He's hurting inside and inflicts pain on others as a result. His abusive father tried to destroy Milo. Gwen eventually left him, but not before he was able to cause maximal damage. Aiden can feel Milo's turbulent emotions, but when Milo tries to hurt animals he's also being crippled by their pain. Will Aiden be able to control his instinctive reactions and find it in his heart to forgive Milo for his actions because of the reason behind them? Is there a possibility that Milo will improve if Aiden gives him a...

Walter: I love how Catherine allows us to see and “feel” vulnerable, honest characters. They help us understand ourselves and others, sometimes teaching us lessons we didn’t know we needed.
