The Browning Shock N Awe Tomahawk Knife is the perfect choice for camping trips. Its build quality and convenience make it one of the best Camping Axes & Hatchets available. Not only is it reliable, but it also makes a great gift for any outdoors enthusiast. With its overall satisfaction, you can be sure you’re getting the best value for your money. DarylDaryl: first off, i want to remind everyone that this is a tomahawk, not a battleaxe - it isn't even really a hatchet. it's supposed to be about 10" tall. stop calling it small, you should either know what a tomahawk is or at least try to read the description before purchasing a $60 product. size-wise, it's perfectly shaped.
now that's out of the way, i'll get on with the actual review.
SIZE
as i've just noted, the tomahawk is perfectly sized. it's small enough to carry easily and more importantly handle easily. it's size somewhat resembles a long knife, which easily translates from any kali training
MECHANICS
i consider the spike on the back to be more as a hook. it can very easily punch a hole into wood or other materials, but it can also be used to control things. it's one of the main reasons why i chose this product over other tomahawks with more straight spikes. one issue i have with the mechanics of the tomahawk is the beard. when chopping things it helps to have more surface area, sure. however, in a combat situation, it'll only get caught on things like bone, clothing, etc. which would affect the case in pulling the axe out of whatever it gets lodged...

EMEM: I got this "used" off Amazon for $49. Saved me $10. (That's why I shot the "box" pics as well)
This is a good little buddy to have along. Light but deadly, small but powerful.
It says "Taiwan" on it, but this thing is not breaking. NOT breaking. Period.
I bought this primarily for CQC because I'd rather have this against an enemy than just my knife. I could go with simply a big knife, but I'm not into carrying "swords" around. I'd rather have this + my normal knife which is more usable anyway. And the small axe/medium knife combo is my preference to just carrying one big blade. But that's personal, go whichever way you want.
It's small, but I wanted it to be small. See pics for size. If it was a big, it'd obviously be more capable (they did come out with a larger version) but I'd not carry it with me and end up not having it when I needed it. This thing can be put on my carrier. It doesn't exactly "disappear" on it, but at least it's discreet. I will use camo wrap on it to make it blend when I get around to it.
I'm not gonna talk about its cutting/chopping/whatever abilities, nor its blade. You're really better off going off to Youtube and watching it in action....

Mike: Recently bought this tomahawk and used it to cut vines trying to kill neighborhood trees for an hour and a half. The "hawk" handled the vines with no problem, but I'd recommend wearing gloves if cutting for a while....I got a nice heat blister on my hand afterward...to be expected after an hour of cutting with no gloves. The "hawk" didn't slip once or turn in my hand while chopping, and afterward I sharpened the blade with a puck, with no problem, and it's plenty sharp again. Love the locking plastic sheath--great to keep safe in my Jeep molle seat back storage system. Only thing I wish was different is the overly large molle locking system on the sheath...one large locking clamp versus two smaller clamps. For a belt it's probably okay, but for molle systems it's too big to fit in the webbing and lock down. Still, overall, a great piece of gear for camping, self-protection/close quarters combat, or playing modern-day Viking Berserker! Can't wait for Halloween--but I'll need a pair to look really super-cool! Actually, 2 of these would make wood chopping twice as fast...they really should come 2 to a set...one for each hand.
