Marjorie: I enjoyed this interest book. I usually read thrillers but this was a nice break. It kept me interested and was I enjoyed the way each of the characters were different. I will be reading more by this author. I recommend it for everyone who just enjoys a great story.

Erika: This was good. It was full of suspense. Bree was a very likable leading lady. Her childhood trauma made for an interesting backstory. I enjoyed the chemistry between Bree and Matt. He was a good partner for her. When the villain’s character was introduced to the storyline, I briefly suspected him because he was so abrasive. Then I let it go. The twists and turns to finding out it was him kept my attention. He turned out to be completely nuts. Bree’s new journey to raising her sister’s children added depth to the storyline. This was a very enjoyable read.

Katherine Galvez: First book I ever read from Melinda Leigh, and I have to say her writing style is good, I like it.
Cross Her Heart is the first book in the -Bree Taggert- Series. Bree is a homicide detective living in Philadelphia.
The first book is about Bree going back to her hometown after her sister Erin was found dead at her boyfriend Justin’s house. Justin is nowhere to be found and is the number one suspect.
When Bree arrives to identify her sister’s body, she is reunited with Justin’s best friend Matt who is worried and does not think Justin killed Erin. Matt Flynn is a former sheriff’s investigator and K-9 handler, Matt wants to find Justin because he thinks something is wrong and Bree wants to investigate and find who killed her sister. They both team up and work closely to find any leads that might help the authorities solve the crime.
The author writes about Bree’s background, about the abusive household she used to live in the traumas her dad caused her, and the the very tragic death of her parents.
4 Stars and will definitely read/listen to more books by Melinda, maybe this whole series.

Gosh, I was crying while Bree tries to juggle the investigation, her childhood triggers and a lifetime habit of suppressing her emotions. There's so many possible suspects. And even though I guessed the right guy, it was only because I DO NOT TRUST MEN haha... I'm all vibes, no evidence necessary.
I think the most interesting part was the working dynamic between her and the former sheriff's deputy, Matt. His best friend is framed for murder so he's motivated to find the real killer. But he also steps in a lot to help Bree find her footing in the town again. The resolution is so satisfying with plenty of flayers and no one-size-fits-all answers.
I listened to the audiobook (included with Kindle Unlimited) and this series is my new...

Michelle Surtees: This is the first book I've read by Melinda Leigh, and it definitely won't be the last.
This is the first in the Bree Taggert series, and it kept me guessing all the way through. I will be binge reading the rest.

Gordon Williams: This book was certainly gripping, but it was also very human with a lot of detail about the daily lives and motivation of key characters. At the centre is a family with a tragic history faced with new trauma, beautifully brought to life by meticulous writing of very high quality. A must read for sure, with the added bonus that it ends well, leaving the reader satisfied and looking for more by this author.

Neelabh Pratap Singh: Having read Morgan Dane and Widow's Island, I've a fair idea about how Melinda Leigh goes about her story. The chapters alternate between solving the mystery and dealing with the personal life of the protagonist which is affected by the murder. Though the personal life/family drama part didn't really contribute much to the overall and so I end up skimming through those chapters. The mystery unfold slowly where the protagonists Bree Taggert and Matt investigate each suspect. The climax wasn't something shocking which you expect in crime thrillers, probably because it was a romantic suspense. Will try next book after some time.
