English Geek: Before purchasing this machine, I had the Hoover dual power max. Like the Bissel, it has the dual scrub brushes, and it worked okay. However, sometimes it just tracked the stains to a different part of the carpet. It was a major pain in the ass to clean the machine after use. You have to take the ENTIRE thing apart, which takes at least an hour or so. The machine lasted one year and broke. This machine, although more expensive, does a better job cleaning the carpets. It also so much easier to clean up afterward. Just snap off the brush covers and you can easily clean the brushes, there is a tool to reach difficult spots. It takes less than five minutes to clean.

David Ripkens: Initially this was a great! It had great suction and cleaning power - but over the course of its first year it has had issue after issue. First the button that lets you switch between front sprayer and bottom sprayer got stuck on front sprayer and the button broke apart entirely when we tried to correct it. Then the solution container began leaking and when we patched the leak it cracked apart entirely and the connection between the solution container and the hose broke off. Now it won't suction at all. We have cleaned it thoroughly after each use and are not hard on our tools. Prior to this we had another brand of steam cleaner that lasted over ten years - this lasted about a year. Moreover, don't expect a lot of help if you're in Canada as the service options are minimal and the company has not made an effort to even be aware of things like Canadians having postal codes, not zip codes, so you can't even submit a concern to the Canadian website because of that. Not going to buy from Bissell again for steam cleaners.

Daniellw34: Heavy machine, loud in operation but does the job with your muscle action to move the machine about. Click the handle going forward to distribute water, release the handle rolling backward to suck up the water. The stair tool is all on your own muscle action but the water does flow, just does not suck it back on the stair tool.. I did receive the item in a damaged box with cleaning fluid missing but after weeks of emails and communications I did receive a refund on the cleaning fluid I had to buy myself.

Steven Weigand: I bought this Bissell carpet cleaner after returning the carpet cleaner that I originally tried, the Hoover Smartwash Automatic Carpet Cleaner model FH52000.

The main selling point of the Hoover Smartwash is that it is ridiculously easy to use. The side benefit to it is that it's also super easy to clean. After using that, you'll be spoiled.

Which leads me to my review of this Bissell Proheat model...

This Bissell beats the Hoover Smartwash in cleaning. It was able to get my carpets cleaner, quicker. The Hoover Smartwash is not bad, mind you. It's just that this Bissell is better. If you want one of the best possible cleans, you should get this one.

If I had to rate the cleaning performance of both, I'd give this Bissell a 9 out of 10, and I'd give the Hoover Smartwash an 8 out of 10.
