Abbey girl: This walking cane is very sturdy and is well made. I would have given it 5 stars except the flash light has not worked in the cane - we even reordered to check and no luck. I read many negative reviews about the flashlight.

electroman: Works fine as a walking assist. The standup feature only works well on smooth flat surfaces. The cane is lightweight so is knocked over very easily. The battery holder cap must be adjusted to prevent the lamp from coming on at unwanted times.

Lynnebgolfing: The idea of foldable is great but the buck stops there - the light is not very bright but more importantly the cane is not sturdy enough and puts people at risk of falls....only good if you need very basic support and guidance in my opinion but did not cut it for me.

Wil01: There are several models of BigAlex on Amazon, and they are all excellent except:

No model numbers are shown on Amazon, the cane itself, or the instructions that come with the cane. That means you can’t select a cane by model number. You must rely on reading the full Amazon descriptions.

The length of the cane is difficult to find. You must search all the descriptions to find it.

Most models come with a light. I have found only one that allows adjustment of the beam direction. You must search very carefully through the entire descriptions to find which one can be adjusted. It is my opinion that the beam adjustment feature is a requirement.

Some have complained that their light stops working. While it is certainly possible that the light can be defective, there is a great likelihood that the battery cap got installed incorrectly. The threads on the battery cap are extremely fine and cross threading is very common. I find that I must make three or more tries before I get a good non-cross threaded fit. My cane has taken many hard falls with no light failures.

It has been reported that Duracell batteries won’t work the light in this cane. I can...

DerekD: first thing

i noticed was the weight was a good feel to it previous cane was to light and did not like the flex in the shaft this shaft is quite rigit and for me the right feel it does have a plastic handle or grip so I wrapped the grip with one roll of tennis grip tape and now grip has a bit of cushion and fits my hand much better believe it is a keeper my previous cane was half the cost but you get what you pay for is a good cane bought in october grip seperated from shaft broke away January liked the cane very dissapointed what now ?

Katherine: I bought this cane because of the articulating foot. I really like this feature. Fixed canes with four tips are usually destabilizing, they need to be vertical so all the feet touch the floor and this makes them tip as you move. And single tip canes can slide out from under you on a wet floor or in the snow. This articulated foot has great traction without tipping, which keeps me safe. I am wobbly enough that I really ought to be using a walker or arm crutches, but since the Big Alex is so supportive I am getting away with just the one cane.

Some other reviewers have complained it isn't sturdy. So when I received it I inspected it closely. The moving parts appear to be solid metal under the soft plastic cover. I went ahead and trusted it. I have been leaning heavily on it for two months now and have had no trouble. I'm tall and moderately heavy and it's been fine. I feel good about it.

The flashlight is a neat feature. It's not something I would have thought of, but I find I do use it, particularly for walking to my car in a parking lot at night, where there can be dark shadows and treacherous snowpiles. So far it still works, but I don't really expect it to last,...

Grandpa Gary Mauser: I was impressed with the quality of the construction. Despite the ease with which it folds up, once unfolded it easily holds my wife's weight when she leans on it. The quad base is just about the right size -- not to big when walking and big enough to be stable. Nevertheless, I gave it only 4 stars because she is having trouble adapting to using it. Not sure why or if she will end up rejecting it. heh. I may end up using it instead!

Peter N...: Updated review! I downgraded my overall rating. The foot became very noisy over time. Also, the foot is not big enough to support it standing on its own. I have dropped several times. I now use it rarely.

This cane assembles/folds up in seconds and is very sturdy. There are no wobbles between the joints. First time I've used a pivoting foot. I tend to hold my cane at an angle and it sounds like another foot-step but it seems durable. The flashlight in the handle is bright and it can be aimed straight ahead or slightly downwards, great for those night-time pee breaks. The hand-grip is easy to hang off the handles on my walker. I intended to use this cane just for travelling, but I like it's good to use around home as well. I would recommend this.
